Charlie Gibson will be leaving "GMA" to take over ABC's "World News Tonight," leaving a gap in the morning news show.

Although ABC News has not made any announcement on its plans, industry insiders are saying Bergeron -- a frequent "GMA" guest host -- is probably the front-runner for the job, The New York Post reported Wednesday.

In addition to Gumbel, other names being tossed around in New York newsman Bill Ritter, who co-anchored "GMA Sunday from 1993 to 1999; and "GMA Weekend Edition" co-anchor Bill Weir, the Post said.

ABC News could also decide not to fill the hole and leave the morning duties to Diane Sawyer and Robin Roberts.

"For right now they are our dynamic duo -- there's no immediate decision on a replacement," a "GMA" spokeswoman told the Post.
