CBS has announced that Survivor: Guatemala's finale episode will air on Sunday, December 11 instead of its regular Thursday evening time period.

Survivor: Guatemala's two-hour finale will air from 8-10PM ET/PT and be followed by the program's traditional hour-long live reunion special. As he has for the last several editions, Survivor host Jeff Probst will host the reunion show, which will take place at the network's Television City studios.

Although the dramatic rise of ABC's powerful Sunday night lineup has resulted in Survivor's recent Sunday finale broadcasts no longer delivering the huge ratings pop that they typically used to, Survivor: Guatemala will be the sixth-straight Survivor edition to feature a Sunday evening finale.

The last Survivor edition to feature a Thursday evening three-hour finale broadcast was Survivor: Thailand on December 19, 2002.

Despite being in its eleventh season and facing tough new time period competition (Alias, Smallville, Everyone Hates Chris) from other networks, Survivor is still a CBS ratings powerhouse that dominates its timeslot. Survivor: Guatemala remains the most watched reality program on television and ranks seventh among all programs in the 2005-2006 season-to-date Nielsen ratings, averaging 17.54 million viewers, a 6.2/17 rating/share in the Adults 18-49 demographic, and a 7.5/18 rating/share among Adults 25-54.
