CBS has announced it has renewed Big Brother for a sixteenth season which will air next summer.

In addition, Big Brother: After Dark has been renewed for a second season on TVGN, the basic cable network co-owned by CBS. 

Big Brother: After Dark's 2014 edition will be its ninth overall season, as the show premiered with Big Brother's eighth season back in Summer 2007 and aired its first seven seasons on Showtime, the premium cable network CBS also owns.

Big Brother's fifteenth season, which will wrap up next week, featured its 500th episode and has averaged 7.29 million total viewers, a 2.6 rating/share in the Adults 18-49 demographic, and a 3.1 rating/share among Adults 25-54 throughout its three-times-a-week broadcast schedule. 

Compared to last year, Big Brother's currently-airing season is up 11% in total viewers -- 8% in adults 18-49 and 7% in adults 25-54.

The series' fifteenth-season special 90-minute finale will air on Wednesday, September 18 at 9:30PM ET/PT following the debut of Survivor: Blood vs. Water.

The finale broadcast will feature one of the three remaining houseguests -- Andy Herren, Spencer Clawson and GinaMarie Zimmerman -- being voted the $500,000 grand prize winner.
