Anna Nicole Smith and attorney Howard K. Stern are not married by law, but are committed to each other, says a close friend, TrimSpa CEO Alex Goen.

"They had a quiet ceremony and declared how much they love each other in front of God," Goen tells In Touch Weekly. "They vowed they would be there for each other.
"They do plan to have a proper ceremony in the future," he added.
There has been controversy the past few days over whether or not the couple is married by law. Star Magazine reported that the pair had married on a catamaran off Blackbeard's Cay in the Bahamas, TMZ.com reported.
The commitment ceremony was held just a day and a half after Stern said that he is the father of Smith's child, Danni Lynn Hope, and 18 days after the sudden death of her 20-year-old son, Daniel.
