Several episodes into Season 4 of 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After?, Chantel and Pedro have hit an all-time low in their relationship. Not only did they discuss what would happen if they were to get a divorce with an immigration attorney, but Pedro also took an open-ended trip to the Dominican Republic to "escape" and get time away from his wife.

Chantel and Pedro's marriage has had many ups and downs since they first appeared on the TLC franchise.

Prior to the new season of 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After?, the couple starred on Season 4 of the original TLC series 90 Day Fiance, followed by Seasons 2 and 3 of the Happily Ever After? spinoff.

Going back to when things began for this couple, Chantel and Pedro met online over four years ago when Chantel was looking to learn Spanish and a friend connected her with Pedro.

What began as a relationship for educational purposes quickly blossomed into a mutual crush.

Chantel then decided to take things to the next level by traveling to another country to spend time with Pedro, and it only took a couple more visits for Pedro to propose marriage to the Georgia-based girl.

Chantel was 25 years old and living in Atlanta when Pedro first arrived in America on a K-1 visa. Pedro was 24 years old at the time.

Although Chantel and Pedro's romance was quite serious by then, Chantel downplayed the significance of their relationship to her family by lying and saying he was just visiting the United States on a student visa.

The lie quickly spiraled out of control, but Chantel and Pedro still opted to get married and make their love official before Pedro's K-1 visa expired.

However, Chantel's family grew concerned Pedro was only interested in marrying Chantel to be able to live in America long-term and benefit financially from their marriage.

Chantel's family therefore forced Chantel and Pedro to sign a prenuptial agreement in order to protect Chantel's financial interests before their wedding.

And not only did Chantel's family attend the wedding with hesitation, but her parents also subsequently hired a private investigator to research Pedro's family background and determine if he already had a wife back in his native country.

Chantel's parents also wanted to find out whether Pedro had any children or other unknown secrets back in the Dominican.

This suspicion stemmed from the fact Pedro was allegedly sending a lot of money to his mother and sister back in the Dominican Republic.

Pedro's desire to constantly support his family and pay for their apartment has angered Chantel, who wants her husband to focus on their needs first.

Not only have the pair's outspoken and stubborn in-laws and family members gotten in the way, but Chantel and Pedro have also struggled with trust and insecurities.

As fans may recall, Season 3 of 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After? concluded with Pedro getting into a blowout fight with Chantel's family at the dinner table.

After River tried to shut Pedro down from telling Chantel and her loved ones to be quiet, Pedro ran across the table and attempted to hit him.

Tempers flared, weaves were pulled off, and the scene culminated into Chantel crying in a chair.

Chantel revealed on the season's subsequent Tell-All special she was not ready to try for a baby and expand their family due to all the chaos.

Chantel was still angry with Pedro and said she couldn't imagine welcoming children with a man her family didn't respect and basically couldn't stand -- and vice versa.

As shown on the new season of 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After?, Chantel has been waiting for Pedro to apologize to her family for his actions -- but he sincerely seems to believe he is the victim.

Chantel therefore felt stuck in the middle between her husband and maintaining deep bonds with her beloved family.

The situation became so tense that Season 4 of 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After? began with the couple considering a move to Savannah, GA -- which would require Chantel to transfer to another school to continue her education -- just to keep her family at a farther distance away.

Not only did Pedro decide not to attend Thanksgiving at Chantel's parents home because he simply didn't feel like he was a part of his wife's family, but Chantel also admitted to her husband she didn't want to have a baby with him until his issues with her family got resolved.

Pedro was then shown planning a trip back to the Dominican Republic to "escape" for a while from all the drama and see his family, but Chantel was worried the move would be permanent.

The couple then met with an immigration attorney to discuss the renewal of Pedro's U.S. green card, and Pedro mentioned potentially opening a business in his home country while continuing to live in the United States.

The immigration attorney revealed if Pedro obtains his 10-year green card renewal, he and Chantel could get divorced and he'd be able to stay in America. Chantel, however, would still be financially responsible for him, regardless of whether they had signed a prenuptial agreement.

Chantel would have to prove Pedro didn't enter their marriage in good faith in order to not be on the hook for him.

"Was this your plan all along? To come here and marry me just for a green card so you can leave me, use me and start your business?" Chantel vented in a confessional.

In the latest episode, Pedro was shown traveling back to the Dominican Republic with a heavy and confused heart.

"If I feel really good, I'll come back to [Chantel]. But right now, I am tired and have no fight," Pedro said in an interview.

Chantel -- who worried her marriage was "doomed" when she dropped Pedro off at the airport -- then told the cameras, "Right now, I feel like my marriage could be lost."

The episode concluded with Pedro confused about what to do about his wife and whether to stay married and living in the United States.

So are Chantel and Pedro still together and married?!

It appears Chantel and Pedro are, in fact, still together and remain husband and wife.

Chantel and Pedro are secretive about their relationship and largely refrain from posting photos and updates of themselves together on social media -- presumably due to their contracts with TLC -- but it seems pretty clear their relationship hasn't ended.

The apparent evidence is the fact Chantel and Pedro's time on reality TV won't end with Season 4 of the Happily Ever After? series.

In April, TLC announced Chantel and Pedro will star in a new 90 Day Fiance spinoff called The Family Chantel that will air on Monday nights beginning in July 2019.

The Family Chantel will star Pedro, Chantel and their lively in-laws -- Chantel's parents Karen and Thomas as well as Pedro's mother Lidia -- and their siblings.

"Viewers will follow this unique modern family as they try to move past their differences and come together as an extended family, but as Chantel's parents Karen and Thomas try to protect their brood, will they push their children too far?" TLC teased in a press release announcing the new show.

"This is an awesome moment for TLC, as we create a family show based on one of our most popular 90 Day couples, and on a whole new night," TLC executive Howard Lee added.

TLC added that fans can't get enough of Pedro, Chantel and their "larger-than-life families."

"For a brand known as the destination for love, relationships and family shows, The Family Chantel hits the bullseye," the network said.

If Chantel and Pedro weren't together anymore, it's very unlikely TLC would continue their story via The Family Chantel.

However, rumors have been swirling Chantel and Pedro may have split, and Chantel posted a May 4 comment on Instagram that prompted speculation her relationship is in trouble after all.

When a fan speculated Chantel and Pedro have split, Chantel just replied, "Seriously."

It's unclear however whether she meant "seriously" as a question out of disbelief or as a statement confirming it's true.
