Paola flew from Bucaramanga, Colombia to the United States on a K-1 visa to marry her husband Russ Mayfield in 2013, and the couple welcomed a son, Axel, in January 2019.

Nearly eight years after saying "I do" and moving from Russ' hometown in Oklahoma to Miami, FL, the Season 1 90 Day Fiance star reached a milestone in her immigration process.

"Today I had the honor to become an American citizen [American flag emoji]. I'm very proud and grateful for everything that this country has given me," Paola, 33, wrote via Instagram on Friday.

Paola also posted a video documenting her preparations for her final interview to gain United States citizenship through a video posted to her YouTube channel.

"Sorry for the drama. Life is not always perfect!" Paola captioned the video.

The morning of Paola's final interview apparently got off to a rough start because she "doesn't like to be late" and Russ had forgotten his wallet with their credit cards inside at home.

Russ and Paola, who had a big pile of necessary documents in hand, then bickered during the car ride, but Russ told his wife that she looked "great" and needed to stay positive.

Luckily, Paola arrived at her interview on time and Russ and Axel waited for Paola in their truck.

"So, I passed the test!" Paola said after the interview, kissing her husband.

"Congratulations!" Russ said.

Paola recalled how the person who had interviewed her recognized her from reality television, which she thought was funny.

"He asked me absolutely everything... They didn't even look through all these papers because they already had all of the information!" Paola shared, adding, "I didn't mess up any questions!... I love history and I knew I was going to do great!"

Paola said she was nervous about the "100 questions" because she wants to be part of this amazing country and do more.

"So April 16 at 12:30PM, I have to be here for my oath, and then they will get my Green Card and they will give me something that says I'm an American!" Paola gushed. "I am very happy and I am very excited."

The video then switched to footage from April 16 of Paola's "Oath Day."

"Because of COVID and their rules, not many people can actually come to the ceremony," Paola shared. "So I'm going be myself."

Russ admitted he was "disappointed" he couldn't attend Paola's big moment, which resulted in Paola being upset that Russ hadn't waited outside of the building for her to congratulate her and take photos along with other new American citizens' families.

"The family picture I was expecting outside... and I'm just, like, in a bad mood... It's something we have worked at for so long, and you expect to see your husband outside -- and he was not there," Paola said.

"But I got my naturalization and I am an American citizen, and that's great."

Paola noted she had a few more things to do regarding paperwork once she got home and Russ later confessed he was "wrong" about not celebrating with Paola immediately after she left the building.

"It has been a long process but I am very proud to become an American citizen... Now I can vote and more things here. It's amazing and I'm very grateful for this opportunity," Paola concluded in her YouTube video.

Following their stint on 90 Day Fiance's first season, Paola and Russ starred on four seasons of TLC's 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After?.

The couple last starred on the spinoff in 2019 but have since appeared on 90 Day Fiance: Pillow Talk as well as 90 Day Fiance: Love Games on Discovery's new discovery+ streaming service.

Paola and Russ, however, were eliminated from the game early in the competition, according to In Touch Weekly.
