Pure Luck

Pure Luck Information

Pure Luck is a 1991 American comedy film starring Martin Short and Danny Glover. It is remake of the popular French comedy film La Chèvre (1981).

Plot

The daughter of a wealthy businessman has disappeared in Mexico, and all the efforts to find her have been unsuccessful. A psychologist (Harry Shearer), knowing that the girl has ultra bad luck, persuades her father (Sam Wanamaker) to send to Mexico one of his employees (Martin Short), an accountant with super bad luck, to find her. Perhaps he will be lucky, and his bad luck could help to find the unlucky girl.

Reception

In 1998 Nadia Tass reported she was still getting residuals from the film due to its success in America.

It was successful in a financial sense but not in a satisfying sense. It was congenial doing a Martin Short comedy but American comedy is different from Australian comedy. It is broader. American audiences enjoyed Pure Luck, but audiences in other countries did not enjoy it so much with the exception of the Germans. I wanted to do something else with the comedy and so did Danny Glover. I would like to have put a lot more pathos and pain into it. But they wanted a comedy for America.

Availability

This movie has been released on VHS. It is unavailable from video on demand sources such as Netflix, Watch Instantly, iTunes, or Amazon on Demand.

It was released on DVD on January 11, 2010 in the Universal Vault Series.

In 2012 Universal included the film in their "4 movie marathon" line of DVD sets along with "King Ralph", "Ghost Dad", and "For Richer or Poorer"
