3 Days to Kill is a 2014 American/French action thriller film directed by McG and written by Luc Besson & Adi Hasak. The film stars Kevin Costner, Amber Heard, Hailee Steinfeld, Connie Nielsen, Richard Sammel, and Eriq Ebouaney. The film was released on February 21, 2014.

Plot

A dying CIA agent Ethan Renner (Kevin Costner) is offered one last assignment. While he accepts in the hope of retirement and medical treatment, he also tries to reconnect with his estranged daughter Zoey Renner (Hailee Steinfeld).

A terminally ill Secret Service agent is coaxed out of retirement for one last job in exchange for an experimental drug that could save his life, and give him more time with his estranged family. For decades Ethan Runner (Kevin Costner) has kept his dangerous career a carefully guarded secret -- not even his wife and daughter know what he really does for a living. Shortly after receiving a grim medical diagnosis, Ethan decides to give up his dangerous career for one last shot at being a decent husband and father. Meanwhile, Ethan has been tasked with watching his daughter while his wife goes out of town for a few days. But when the agency offers Ethan a life-saving cure in exchange for capturing a notorious terrorist, he reluctantly accepts. Now, with his daughter's safety in his hands for the first time in a decade and the powerful drug's debilitating side effects taking hold, the hunt begins.

Production

On August 7, 2012 Deadline reported that Kevin Costner has been offered the role of Ethan Renner, a government assassin in the McG's directing film. The film titled Three Days to Kill set in France, is scripted by Luc Besson and Adi Hasak, with EuropaCorp to produce while Relativity Media has North American rights. Later on October 2nd, it was confirmed that actor Costner has closed the deal to star as lead in the film. On November 29, 2012 Hailee Steinfeld has joined the cast of the film as female lead, the film was formerly known Three Days to Kill is set to begin production early next year. On December 13th, Amber Heard also joined the cast to star opposite Costner in the action thriller film. Later on January 7, 2013 Connie Nielsen was added to the cast.

Filming

On January 7, 2013 the crews were filming the scenes in Paris and Serbia, set to wrap shooting in April. Some scenes were filmed in the new film studios of the Cit du Cinma founded by Luc Besson in Saint-Denis in France. Costner arrived in Belgrade, Serbia on April 13, 2013 for the shooting of the film. On April 15, 2013, McG and Costner began the shooting of the film in front of Hotel Jugoslavija.

On April 18, 2013 Costner met Prime Minister of Serbia Ivica Da?i?, where he was shooting the action-thriller film.

Release

On January 31, 2013 some photos from the set of the film were released. In November 2013 some stills were released from the film. On December 17, 2013 studio released first trailer and the poster of the film. On January 30, 2014 Relativity released a new Super Bowl 2014 spot for the upcoming film.

First on May 28, 2013 Relativity has set the film to release on February 14, 2014. Later on October 30, the film's date was shifted back a week, to release on February 21, 2014.

Reception

3 Days to Kill has received negative reviews from critics, as the film currently holds a 25% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 64 reviews. The consensus states: "3 Days to Kill uneasily mixes technically accomplished action sequences with an underdeveloped family conflict."
