Sixteen is a 2013 Hindi-language drama thriller film directed by Raj Purohit, starring Izabelle Leite,Keith Sequeira, Wamiqa Gabbi, Mahak, Highphill.

Plot

The film depicts India where growing up has speeded up many times from days gone by. In the times of the Internet, the Delhi Times, Page-3 and more than 300 TV channels, innocence is the first casualty. It depicts the advantages and disadvantages of the internet on teenage.The movie is based upon young boys and girls of India. Anu is carefree and ambitious girl who wants to be a model. Nidhi is a girl who is innocent and 'Miss virgin'of group. Tanisha is mature than her age and likes guys older than her.She lives with her aunt since her parents passed away in an accident. She wants a perfect guy-with good sense of humour,good looks and intelligence. Ashwin belongs to a middle class family with a strict dad who wants him to be an IAS. Nidhi is going out with Kartik. Kartik wants to take things further but Nidhi wants wait for 'right time and the right place'.Tanisha and Ashwin are best friends and Ashwin has a crush on Tanisha. Tanisha likes guys older than her and likes Ashwin as a friend only. Anu changes her boyfriends all the time. A handsome and intelligent writer-Vikram Kapoor comes to live as PG at Tanisha's place. From day one Vikram has feelings for Tanisha. One day,Ashwin confesses his feelings to Tanisha. She politely denies him.Ashwin is devastated. On same say, Ashwin's father finds porn on his computer and beats him up. Ashwin stabs his father with a trophy. His mom silently tells him to run away. He runs away from Delhi and and lands in a city where he joins a gang. Nidhi finally has sex with Kartik. Tanisha also develops feelings for Vikram.To make things complicated,even Tanisha's aunt develops feelings for Vikram.Anu comes to know that her parents are in an open marriage.After a few days,Nidhi starts thinking that she is pregnant. Anu buys a pregnancy test kit for her. While buying that,she bumps into her ex boyfriend who asks her why she dumped him. Anu humiliates him badly and leaves.Nidhi is now pregnant with Kartik's baby. They decide to do abortion.But due to some comlications Nidhi is shifted to other hospital. She has to stay there for two days. Nidhi tells her mom false reasons. Meanwhile Anu comes to know that her ex boyfriend has leaked her MMS.She is rusticated from her school for that. Tanisha comes to know that Vikram is leaving to London soon. A girl-who is rival of Nidhi,Anu and Tanisha-tells Nidhi's mom that she is in hospital.Her mom rushes to hospital and comforts her,so does her dad. Ashwin's gang decides to rob an old rich man. They come to his house. Ashwin is about to kill him when that old man says that his son is an IAS. Ashwin breaks down and bursts into tears. Anu is about to kill herself when her brother calls up. He persues her to not to kill herself. Tanisha tells to Vikram that she wants to sleep with him. One year later it is shown that Nidhi is now in a girl's school. Anu now has applied for Miss India contest and tells that her parents are supportive of her and she loves them. Vikram has written a novel named 'Sixteen'which chosen as booker prize finalist.Anu,Tanisha and Nidhi go to meet Ashwin in his school. Tanisha kisses Ashwin on cheek indicating that she has started liking him.

Sixteen is a story about lost innocence and teenage heartache in urban India.

Critical Reception

VjMOVIEws opined that, " its coming-of-age drama has not been depicted with such an audacity in many of the Bollywood movies before. Its a sure go-go for a bunch of teens. " Karan Anshuman of Mumbai Mirror rated the movie 2 out of 5. Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama rated the movie 3/5 and observed that, "Sixteen is well intentional and tackled relevant issues". .
