Jimmi Simpson Biography

James Raymond "Jimmi" Simpson (born November 21, 1975) is an American actor. He is best known for his work on television, which includes roles in Breakout Kings, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, My Name Is Earl and 24. His film credits include White House Down, Date Night and Zodiac.

Personal life

Simpson was born in Hackettstown, New Jersey, the youngest of three brothers.

After graduating from Bloomsburg University (with a Bachelor of Arts in theatre), he acted for four seasons at the prestigious Williamstown Theatre Festival in Massachusetts.

Simpson met actress Melanie Lynskey in 2001, when they both appeared in Stephen King's Rose Red. The pair became engaged in 2005, and married on April 14, 2007, in a chapel near Queenstown, New Zealand.

Lynskey filed for divorce from Simpson on October 1, 2012, citing irreconcilable differences.

Career

Simpson made his film debut in Amy Heckerling's teen comedy Loser (2000), which was followed by guest spots in episodes of NYPD Blue, Cold Case and Carnivle, as well as roles in the films D.E.B.S., Herbie: Fully Loaded, Stay Alive, Seraphim Falls and David Fincher's highly praised crime drama Zodiac.

In 2008, Simpson starred in The Farnsworth Invention on Broadway. His portrayal of Philo T. Farnsworth was described as "superb" by The Chicago Tribune, and earned him a Theatre World Award. (Additional stage credits include: Tartuffe, The Rainmaker (Broadway), Camino Real, The Winter's Tale and A Midsummer Night's Dream).

From 2008-2009, Simpson appeared as a recurring guest on The Late Show with David Letterman, playing "Lyle the Intern". During that time, he also appeared in episodes of House and Psych, and had roles in The Invention of Lying (directed by Ricky Gervais) and Date Night, opposite Steve Carrell.

Other notable credits include It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, on which Simpson appears frequently as Liam McPoyle, and the A&E series Breakout Kings, where he starred as Lloyd Lowery, a former child prodigy with a penchant for gambling. (The show was cancelled on May 17, 2012, after two seasons).

Most recently, Simpson was seen in the films Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, The Truth About Emanuel (nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the 2013 Sundance Festival), and action thriller White House Down, opposite Jamie Foxx.
