Jim Wieder Biography



Jim Wieder is a business owner in Hayward, California, entrepreneur, and a former television and radio reporter. He is the owner of Hayward Ace Hardware and is active in the East Bay business community.

Broadcasting career

Wieder is the son of Holocaust immigrants from Budapest, Hungary. He started his Broadcasting career in 1978 at WCJB-TV Gainesville, Florida as the weather anchor. By 1983, Wieder switched to news management as News Director for WKFT-TV Raleigh/Fayetteville North Carolina. In 1988, Wieder was anchoring the evening news at KMST-TV in Monterey and eventually retired from local news in 2006 from KGO-TV. ABC News Los Angeles and ABC Network Radio continued to use Wieder's reports until 2008. In 2005, Jim purchased Hayward Ace an award winning hardware outlet. From 2006 to 2008, Wieder also reported for ABC Radio Network News, ABCNewsone and the Weather Channel while operating Hayward ACE. For more than a decade, Wieder was also a frequent fill in talk show host for KGO Newstalk 810.

Business career

In 2006, Wieder purchased Hayward Ace Hardware in Downtown Hayward, near Hayward City Hall., California after completing small business training at the Contra Costa Small Business Development Council. In 2007, Wieder completed Ace Hardware Top Gun training for retailers and the property quickly earned Ace Vision 21 status for superior sales and customer service. In 2008, Hayward Ace was awarded an A+ rating from the Alameda County Better Business Bureau and named Hayward Small Business of the Year by the Hayward City Council. In 2008, Wieder was appointed President and CEO of the Hayward Chamber of Commerce and retained that post until 2010.

Personal life

Wieder recently celebrated his 20th wedding anniversary. He has two college age children and resides in Contra Costa County California. His extended family now reside in Southern California. His broadcastimg career spanned four decades with reporting assignments around the world and throughout the United States. Awards include Edward R. Murrow for reporting excellence during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
