Grown-ish (stylized as ''''') is an upcoming American sitcom series and a spin-off of Black-ish starring Yara Shahidi. The single-camera comedy follows the Johnsons' eldest daughter Zoey (Yara Shahidi) as she heads off to college and begins her hilarious journey to adulthood but quickly discovers that not everything goes her way once she leaves the nest. The series is set to premiere in early 2018 on Freeform.

Production

Development and casting

The twenty-third episode of the Black-ish third season, "Liberal Arts", functioned as a backdoor pilot for this spin-off, featuring Yara Shahidi's character, Zoey Johnson, as she goes to college. Shahidi will topline the proposed series, with Chris Parnell, Mallory Sparks, Matt Walsh, and Trevor Jackson guest starring in the backdoor pilot, and the possibility to become regulars should the proposed spin-off be picked up by ABC. The series was later retitled Grown-ish, with Parnell and Jackson reprising their roles from the backdoor pilot with Emily Arlook replacing Mallory Sparks in the role of Miriam. In August 2017, joined the cast as Francia Raisa as Ana along with Jordan Buhat as Vivek. Music duo Chloe and Halle would also recur as twin sisters Sky and Jazz.

Filming

On May 19, 2017, Freeform (ABCs sister network) officially ordered 13 episodes of spinoff under the tentative title College-ish.
