Chris Hurst Biography

Chris Hurst (born July 9, 1987) is an evening co-news anchor for CBS affiliate WDBJ in Roanoke, Virginia. Hurst previously served as a general assignment reporter KNDU in Walla Walla, Washington and as the weekend reporter at WDBJ.

Background

Hurst is originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Emerson College in May 2009 with a degree in broadcast journalism.

Present day

Hurst began his current position as main anchor at WDBJ in May, 2011. Since Hurst took over, WDBJ has reclaimed its ranking as the number 1 television news station in southern Virginia. At NEWS7, Hurst has reported on stories including the abduction of Brittany Mae Smith, a New Year's Eve explosion at the Federal Mogul plant in Blacksburg and the murder of Alex Ernandes, who was posthumously accepted to West Point. He reported on the tornadoes of 2010, reporting from Pulaski the night two twisters caused widespread destruction. He was the first reporter to show images from the damage and continued with coverage of a fatal tornado a few weeks later in Halifax County.

Personal

Hurst sings in the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra Chorus and volunteers in the after school program at the Baptist Community Center in Vinton. He is an avid fan of pro sports teams in his home city of Philadelphia, most notably the Phillies. Hurst says one day he hopes to complete a book, although he did not reveal the subject matter of the project.
