Popstars is an international reality television program and a precursor to the Idol series. The series first began in New Zealand in 1999 when producer Jonathan Dowling formed the five member all-girl group TrueBliss. Dowling then sold the concept to other countries, initially to Australia and then onto the UK before taking worldwide.
The show was the inspiration for Simon Fuller's Pop Idol franchise which would dominate reality TV, (along with Big Brother) for the next few years.
Although Popstars had started in most countries successfully, the series began to fail step by step in the world. It was removed by the channels due to poor ratings. The only country where Popstars is still popular and successful is Germany. In Germany ProSieben is producing the sixth season because of the massive success of the ratings. In 2007, it was announced that the show will return to France on M6. It remains one of the most successful TV show formats of all time with the format being sold to more than 50 countries.
Danielle Stearman - (also known as just Danielle) is the runner-up of the Australian Popstars 3 in 2002. Her first official/solo single "Tell Me If You Like It" debuted and peaked at #20 in the same year, but she has not charted in the ARIAnet Singles nor Albums Charts since.
