So You Think You Can Dance 1 (Courtesy Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
So You Think You Can Dance is an American television reality program and dance competition airing on the FOX network. Season one premiered July 20, 2005. Nick Lazzarini was announced as the winner on the October 5, 2005 season finale, and received a grand prize of $100,000 and use of an apartment in New York City, New York for one year.
Auditions
Open auditions for America's favorite dancer were held in Chicago, Illinois; New York City, New York; and Los Angeles, California. A total of fifty dancers"25 male and 25 female"who impressed the judges were invited to move on to "Hollywood Week," where their skills were challenged by choreographers Alex Da Silva, Brian Friedman, Dan Karaty, Mia Michaels, and Mary Murphy. From this group, 16 dancers"eight male and eight female"were chosen to move on to the finals.

Performances
Performances were always judged by Nigel Lythgoe, and various combinations of the following guest judges: Brian Friedman, Dan Karaty, Mia Michaels, and Mary Murphy. On the weeks they were not judging, the guest judges appeared in the pool of guest choreographers.
Special Performance: The final four contestants each danced for several seconds in the "Freestyle Round" to "Music" by John Miles.

Special performances:
A Latin number performed by choreographer Alex Da Silva and host Lauren Sánchez to "Caravan" by Eddie Torres and his Mambo Kings
The dance group Groovaloos dancing to "Groovaloo Mix" by It's Just Begun
Anthony Bryant, who auditioned and was rejected for being too feminine in his dancing, danced to "Love With My Eyes Closed" by Michael Bolton while waving a ribbon. (Bryant would audition again for season 3 and make the late stages of the semifinals, but once again miss out on the finals.)
Each of the top 4 had the chance to reprise a previous dance of their choice.
