Flavor of Love 1 (Courtesy Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
Flavor of Love is an American reality television dating game show starring Flavor Flav of the rap group Public Enemy. While not a direct spin-off, the show was a result of Brigitte Nielsen and Flavor Flav's failed relationship on Strange Love. FOL has been confirmed to have a third season, and has a new website for contestants to sign up. The casting website launched late July/early August.
Show format
Flavor of Love stars Flavor Flav of hip-hop group Public Enemy. The show was part of VH1's Celebreality lineup and its format is similar to that of The Bachelor, with contestants living in a mansion and being put through various challenges while Flav chose to keep or eliminate them. He was helped in his quest by his bodyguard, butler, and chauffeur, "Big Rick". He was also assisted by his mother, as well as his former romantic partner Brigitte Nielsen. The show also helped spin off several new shows: I Love New York, and Flavor of Love Girls: Charm School.
In the show, each contestant is given a nickname by Flav and is referred to by that nickname for as long as she remains in the competition. When a contestant is eliminated, her real name is then revealed. Flavor of Love features a clock ceremony where contestants who are not eliminated receive gold clocks to wear around their necks with their picture behind the hands of the clock.
1Tiffany Pollard ("New York"), a contestant from Season 1, re-entered the competition midway through Season 2 per Flavor Flav's request. 2 One supposed contestant, "Eye'z," was actually an imposter hired by the producers. "New York's" re-entry into the game brings the number of actual contestants to 20. 3 It was announced during the Marathon of Flavor of Love on August 13,2007 that there will be a Flavor of Love 3. This season will be like the Second Season of I Love New York, in which fans can help cast the show. Flav has four friends, Goldie, Saaphyri, Hottie, and Buckwild to help him.
The twice rejected Flavorette Tiffany "New York" Pollard has her own quest to find her true love in a pool of 20 men. The show features Mauricio Sanchez as "Chamo," New York's assistant and Michelle Patterson, Pollard's mother.
The winner of the show, Patrick "Tango Wango" Hunter proposed to New York after she selected him to be her ninja turtle. After the show was over, extra footage revealed the scene in which New York's mother found out he proposed to New York (who hid the engagement ring in her mouth). During the reunion episode, Tango Wango revealed to New York that he couldn't get married to "New York" because of the remarks she made of master Splinter and his mother, and that he wanted to marry "Tiffany", the woman he fell in love with. Therefore, he broke off his engagement to her. She then cursed him out, calling him a stupid ninja turtle and remarks about his 2 inch dick. New York also said she didn't care that Tango Wango broke the engagement off and it would not break her down. The series first aired Monday, January 8, 2007 and the season one finale (Reunion Special), aired April 15, 2007.
The second season has finished production. Five of the men were chosen by viewers.
Thirteen Flavorettes from both seasons of Flavor of Love are assigned the challenge of developing proper etiquette in a competition for $50,000 and the title of "Charm School Queen." The hostess of Charm School is actress and comedian Mo'Nique. The two other "deans", Mikki and Keith help Monique decide who to eliminate. The winner of Charm School was Season 2's Saaphyri Windsor. She was disqualified from Flavor of Love (Season 2) because of her altercation with H-town. The show was filmed in December of 2006. This show premiered Sunday, April 15, 2007 with a ten episode run. The finale (reunion) aired July 8, 2007.
Other Flavor of Love contestants were chosen to be on the show and were interviewed before the final cast was decided. They included Abigail "Red Oyster" Kintanar from the first season and Britney "Tiger" Morano from the second. Their interviews can be viewed on the VSPOT at VH1.com.
An almost-exact replica of Flavor of Love stars the rock band Poison's front man Bret Michaels searching for love. His assistant/bodyguard Big John is the replacement for FOL's Big Rick. 25 women were chosen to compete, but 20 were eventually allowed in the house.
The show premiered Sunday, July 15, 2007 and is expected to air its finale September 30,2007.
