Ethel Griffies (born Ethel Woods, 26 April 1878, Sheffield, West Riding of Yorkshire – 9 September 1975, London) was an English actress of stage, screen and television.

Career

She appeared in numerous plays, 90 films and 10 TV episodes in a career that lasted from 1881 - when she was brought onstage as a baby by her parents - until 1967. She played Grace Poole in two versions of Jane Eyre, the 1934 Monogram and the 1943 versions.

One of her last roles, for which she is best remembered, was the elderly ornithologist Mrs Bundy in Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds (1963).
