Sarah Hudson (born 1984) is an American pop singer-songwriter, and creator of the club-pop music project Ultraviolet Sound. She is the daughter of record producer and 1970s television personality-pop singer Mark Hudson.
Sarah Hudson was born to parents, record producer and 1970s television personality-pop singer Mark Hudson (of the Hudson Brothers), and established European dancer, Wendy Gotelee. Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Hudson grew up doing dance and musical theater. As a teenager Hudson did extensive guest and background vocal work for many established pop artists and began writing her own songs at the age of 18. Hudson has trained professionally from the age of 3 under voice instructors Mary Drummond, Elisabeth Howard and Dena Murray.
2005-2006: Debut album
Hudson's previous record label, S-Curve Records, folded before her debut album, Naked Truth (2005), was officially released. Collaborators include Desmond Child, Eric Bazilian, Billy Mann, Ozzy Osbourne and Aerosmith vocalist Steven Tyler. Hudson has been featured in Interview, Women's Wear Daily, YM, Seventeen, Teen Vogue and Elle.
Work began in late 2008 on Hudson's new "club pop" music project under the name Ultraviolet Sound. The group, also known as UVS, released their first full length record, O.C.D. (Obsessive Compulsive Dancing), in April 2009 independently. The band secured sponsorship of O.C.D from Adidas Originals and garnered a total of 135,000 downloads.
Among UVS's highlights for 2009 were being on tour for most of the year, a show in Toronto at Circa with the DJ superstars SebastiAn and Kavinsky, a 35-city tour with Atlanta-based crunk-rockers Family Force 5, a show in Vegas with Lady Gaga, a SXSW performance on a bill with Robyn, N.E.R.D, Dragonette, Katy Perry and other top artists, multiple posts from celebrity blogger and tastemaker Perez Hilton, hearing their cover of "Two of Hearts" in rotation on top dance stations and more. Ultraviolet Sound took their music international in March 2009 with a 20-date U.K. tour which included stops in London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Brighton and Nottingham.
UVS released their new album worldwide on April 12, 2011. They recently added 3 preview songs from their latest album "Fuck'd Up" featuring Izza Kizza "Electric Misfit Love Machine" and "La La Love" on their MySpace page.
In early 2011 their first single "Suck My Kiss" was released digitally on iTunes along with three remixes. Followed by the release of their second single "Girl Talk" which was the #1 release at Top 40 radio from an independent label in 2011, playing on over 50 Top 40 stations in the country and still in heavy rotation on Sirius XM's Hits1 and 20on20.
Ultraviolet Sound spent a good part of 2011 writing and producing a record for upcoming artist, Ferras and are spending the beginning of 2012 back in the studio working on their new singles.
Hudson was featured on Frontline in its report "The Way The Music Died." She has also appeared on a Season 1 episode of Project Runway, during a challenge where the contestants had to design a rocker fashion with which she would portray her image. She was touted as an "up and coming rock star".
