The runaway popularity of Fox's American Idol series has led a British company to turn it into ... a video game? Reuters reports that Codemasters will release versions of American Idol and its British inspiration, Pop Idol, this fall for the PC and the Sony PlayStation 2.

The video game will allow players to create and train a character, who will then perform one of 40 possible tracks for the judges. Pressing the correct button combinations will cause the character to sing on key and dance to the beat. The key feature of the American Idol game, though, is that it will feature the likenesses and commentaries of the real show's judges: Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson.

This may be one video game in which losing is more entertaining than winning. Now, you can be trashed by Simon in the comfort of your own home!
