'90 Day Fiance' recap: Armando announces he's engaged, Sumit confronts his parents, Melyza admits another relationship, Ariela needs emergency C-section

90 Day Fiance: The Other Way featured Armando Rubio announcing his engagement to his family, Sumit having a tense conversation about his love for Jenny Slatten with his disapproving parents, Melyza Zeta admitting she had a sexual relationship with a man while broken up with Tim Clarkson, Ariela Danielle learning she must have an emergency C-section, and Brittany Banks receiving bad news about her divorce during the Season 2 episode Monday night on TLC.


90 Day Fiance: The Other Way follows American citizens moving to foreign countries for the sake of love and their future spouses, and they must marry within 90 days in order to stay.

90 Day Fiance: The Other Way's second-season episode featured Season 1 returnees Jenny, a 61-year-old from Palm Springs, CA, and Sumit, a 32-year-old from New Delhi, India; Yazan Abo Horira, a 24-year-old from Amman, Jordan, and Brittany, a 26-year-old from Palm Beach, FL; Ariela Danielle, a 28-year-old from Princeton, NJ, and Biniyam Shibre, a 29-year-old from Ethiopia; Kenneth Niedermeier, a 57-year-old from St. Petersburg, FL, and Armando, a 31-year-old from Mexico; and Tim, a 34-year-old from Dallas, TX, and Melyza, a 29-year-old from Colombia.

Deavan Clegg, a 23-year-old from Salt Lake City, UT, and Jihoon Lee, a 29-year-old from Seoul, South Korea, were not featured in the episode.


Below is what was shown on 90 Day Fiance: The Other Way after returning from a hiatus.

JENNY AND SUMIT

Jenny had been living in India with Sumit for three weeks and Sumit was about to meet with his parents for a conversation about the future of his relationship.

Sumit was prepared to fight for love and stand up for Jenny, but Jenny feared his parents would continue to disapprove of their union and attempt to block or prevent their marriage.

Sumit's parents Sahna and Anil said they missed their son and Sumit had been distant from them, but Sahna admitted, "We won't let him marry her."

Sumit said being happy and being with the woman he loves is "more important than what society thinks."

When Sumit sat down with his parents, Sumit revealed he was living with Jenny and their romance wasn't planned because life just happens.

Sumit said he wanted his parents' support, but Sahna said, "No, I will never accept Jenny. She is not with us. If she was younger, I would have happily accepted her into our home. Forget her. This is not your life."

Anil agreed Jenny is more than twice Sumit's age and this type of relationship is "not acceptable" in Indian society. Anil said their family could not change Indian society and Sumit wouldn't be able to welcome children with Jenny.

"If you want to live in harmony with society, then you have to follow the rules. As husband and wife, in another 10-15 years, she will be around 75," Anil said of Jenny.


"Maybe you'll need to care for us. We are getting old. But you may also need to take care of her. How will you choose who you will look after?"

Sumit promised to take care of both his parents and Jenny, and then Sahna started crying and said it seemed like her son was going to leave his parents for a woman.

Sahna therefore reminded Sumit of all they had done for him, including Anil paying about $20,000 to settle Sumit's divorce case. Anil said he had worked his whole life to save that amount of money.

Anil called Sumit's relationship "downright odd," and then Sahna told Sumit that he was only thinking of his own happiness and was acting selfishly. Sumit explained that Jenny made him happy and he was "dying" in his marriage.

Sahna and Anil admitted to having made a mistake by forcing Sumit into marriage, and Sumit agreed, saying he stopped sharing his thoughts with his parents for over two years because of what they had done to him.

"You are sad because you are so obsessed with what random people in society are saying," Sumit shouted at his parents, adding, "I was the one who was suffering! I told you three times that I wanted to commit suicide."

Sumit said, "I am your son. I am getting true love with Jenny. You are asking me to choose between you two. Why can't I choose both? Think about it."

Anil responded by saying, "We'll try our best," and Sumit seemed content and optimistic. With that being said, he hugged his crying mother, and Anil noted that he didn't want to see Sumit in pain.

"But if he asks us to marry Jenny, we cannot say that this will happen or that will happen. Time will tell. Everything is decided by the time," Anil told the cameras.


When Jenny and Sumit reunited, Sumit told Jenny what his parents had said and how he had an emotional conversation with them. Jenny assured Sumit that she was in good health and his parents shouldn't be so concerned with what society thinks.

Jenny knew a lot was riding on Sumit's parents accepting her relationship. Jenny knew if Sumit's parents blocked her marriage, she may have to move back to the United States again.

Sumit told Jenny that he was 100 percent sure he wanted to be with her despite his parents' feelings on the matter, and Jenny was at least happy his parents were willing to listen.

"We can consider this a small win," Sumit said.

Jenny told Sumit that she appreciated everything Sumit was doing for them.

BRITTANY AND YAZAN

Four weeks ago, Brittany had moved to Jordan to be with her fiance Yazan, and she just landed in Chicago, where her mother Audrey lives, because Brittany needed to appear in court regarding her pending divorce to her former husband.


Audrey didn't think Brittany and Yazan were a good fit together, and Brittany acknowledged adjusting to life in Jordan was truly difficult and she was feeling "mentally drained" at this point.

Brittany told her mother Audrey that there was "some real craziness" during her visit to Jordan.

Brittany had told Yazan that she was going to Chicago to meet her new sister's baby, which was true, but she also needed to appear in court, and Yazan had no idea that Brittany was still married. (Yazan, however, was aware Brittany had been married before).

Brittany had married her high school boyfriend a couple of years prior but they never legally split.

"If Yazan and his family found out about this secret, they would be over-the-top angry. I mean, that would crazy! Getting this divorce means I'm one step closer to getting married to Yazan, but I have doubt in my mind about our relationship," Brittany told the cameras.


Over a glass of wine, Brittany sat down with her mother and discussed the problems she had faced in Jordan. Audrey told Brittany to be honest with Yazan, and Brittany replied, "I think the same thing, but the situation I'm in is a little more difficult than that."

Brittany said Yazan didn't know how to separate himself from his family in a certain way and she hoped to come clean after the court date. Brittany feared being open and honest with Yazan's "insane" parents.

"Your parents don't have to be involved in every little aspect [of your life]," Brittany said.

But Audrey argued that Yazan grew up consulting his parents about everything and Brittany wouldn't be able to change her fiance's culture. Yazan's parents were expecting Brittany to make a decision on whether she'd convert to Islam and change her social media accounts.

Audrey advised Brittany to stay the person she is, adding, "If [Yazan] don't want to marry you then, [get rid of him]."

Audrey told the cameras that Brittany wasn't going to change for anyone and so Yazan needed to accept her just the way she is, and Brittany told the her mother that her relationship wouldn't work out if Yazan tried to force her to change for him.

Brittany knew there were many things she and Yazan had to address, but she felt closer to him after getting through so many arguments and hardships.

Meanwhile, Yazan missed Brittany and said being without her was very upsetting and sad.

Brittany then attended her court hearing and was shocked to discover no documents had been uploaded in the clerk's office about her divorce.

"I flew all the way from Jordan for nothing. I have to refile and all this stuff has to be reapproved by a judge. So now, I'm going to have to stay in the U.S. longer than I expected. I don't know what I'm going to do about Yazan... I really thought I was going to have a divorce," Brittany complained.

Brittany didn't know what she was going to tell Yazan, and she was very concerned.


"Waiting longer to get divorced brings on a lot of problems," Brittany said.

"Yazan is going to be wondering why I'm taking so long. His family is going to be wondering why I'm taking so long to marry him. It just seems like the longer I wait to tell him, the more sh-t I'm getting into."

KENNETH AND ARMANDO

Kenneth had been in Mexico for a week and said he had never been so sure about a person before.

Kenneth, Armando and Kenneth's dog Truffles were shown driving to pick up Armando's daughter Hannah, and Armando said she couldn't wait to be reunited with his little girl and become a family.

Armando, however, had never introduced a male partner to his parents before, and both he and Kenneth were very nervous about this meeting. Armando said he wasn't ready to tell his parents that he was engaged because he assumed his parents wouldn't react to the news well.

Armando therefore removed his engagement ring in the car on the drive over to his parents' place, and Kenneth admitted it was a little odd. However, Kenneth understood Armando needed a moment to gather his thoughts and pick the right time to share the news.

"I really hope Armando's family likes me. It would be better for him and better for our relationship," Kenneth said.

However, Kenneth knew it would be difficult to get to know Armando's parents because he doesn't speak their language and Armando would have to translate for him. Kenneth therefore didn't see much hope in being able to "charm" Armando's mother Virginia and father Armando Sr.

Armando taught Kenneth a few phrases he could say in the car.

Armando thought it was important to keep Hannah near her family since Hannah's mother had passed away, and that's apparently one of the major reasons why Armando didn't want to move to America to be with Kenneth.

Armando didn't know what to expect from this meeting, and he figured his parents felt the same way. Armando hoped his father would accept his new relationship given life was hard enough already.


Armando planned to reveal he was engaged, but he just didn't know how to go about it. He discussed with Kenneth whether he should pull his mother aside and speak to her in private or just announce the news.

Kenneth hoped Armando would just "let it all out" and no longer keep secrets from his family, but Armando noted "it all depends" and asked Kenneth not to pressure him into something he wasn't ready for.

"I am scared. I am nervous. I am worried. I don't know what to expect," Armando vented to the cameras, before telling Kenneth that he needed his fiance to be on his side.

There was a lot riding on Armando's reunion with his parents, and it turned out there were many family members waiting for Armando and Kenneth's arrival. Armando said not accepting Kenneth was not accepting himself, so he hoped for the best.

Armando missed Hannah a lot and was excited to see her, and Kenneth embraced Hannah as well. Kenneth said all the struggle was worth seeing Hannah and how she shined.


Armando introduced Kenneth to Virginia, but Armando Sr. didn't show up. Virginia admitted it was "strange" to see her son with a man, but she was happy to see Armando.

Kenneth noticed everyone was staring at him, like an attraction at the zoo, but everyone seemed warm to Kenneth upon meeting him -- with hugs all around.

Kenneth said he wished he had learned more Spanish in order to communicate with Armando's family and form a bond with them, but Kenneth just smiled at everyone as they sat around the father.

Armando didn't know what to say and admitted he was lost in his own head. Armando didn't know how to act with Kenneth sitting next to him and assumed his father -- who was allegedly "tired" -- was avoiding meeting Kenneth.

Virginia went into what appeared to be her house and asked Armando Sr. to come outside, but Armando's father said he didn't want to. Virginia begged her husband to just say hello and meet Kenneth, and Armando noted it was a very difficult moment.

Armando Sr. did come outside to hug his son, and he shook Kenneth's hand. It was definitely a nervewracking moment for Armando, and the meet and greet was very quick before Armando Sr. went back into the house.


Armando wished his father had more of an interaction with Kenneth, but he knew his father was having a tough time.

Armando was willing to be patient for Armando Sr. to come around. Kenneth also wished Armando Sr. would want to get to know him, adding that the meeting was "very disappointing."

Kenneth also met Armando's sister Deborah, who cried about the idea of Hannah moving several hours away from her. Virginia broke down into tears about Armando and Hannah leaving, and Kenneth said he completely understood but really loved Hannah and would take care of her.

"I have an announcement," Kenneth said.

"Now what?" Virginia asked.


"Well," Armando said, as he took out his engagement ring and stood up in front of the entire group with courage and pride. "He asked me to marry him. So, we are getting married. I just wanted to tell you."

The group seemed to be in shock and there was nothing but silence. Kenneth told Armando's friends and family the engagement wasn't a quick and spontaneous decision but he knew it was "a lot" for them to take in.

Virginia wasn't sure what to say or how to feel, but she told her son that it was his choice. Virginia was surprised and wished Armando had told her first in private before announcing the news in front of her sisters.

"I can tell that she's embarrassed and that she's hurt by this announcement. And I'm sad. I'm sad for Armando that his mother took it as something horrible and not as something beautiful," Kenneth said in a confessional.

Virginia expected her husband would also be surprised by the engagement news, and so she actually planned to hide the news from Armando Sr. With that being said, Virginia told her son that she was ready to end the evening and go to bed.

Virginia told Armando and Kenneth that they could stay the night, and Virginia added, "Tell him that he is welcome here." Kenneth, however, could tell that the look on Virginia's face was pain and dismay.

Kenneth didn't exactly feel comfortable spending the night, especially because he felt a bad vibe from Armando Sr., but he didn't want to be rude. Armando said he was at least happy his father had made an appearance to shake Kenneth's hand.

"It wasn't the reaction I had hoped for, but it was definitely the reaction I had expected, especially from my dad," Armando told the cameras.

Kenneth wished it could've been a joyful occasion for everyone, and he didn't want to be viewed as "the bad guy." Kenneth worried Armando's family would blame him for the situation.

The night ended with Kenneth and Armando embracing and expressing their love for one another.

ARIELA AND BINIYAM

Ariela had moved to Ethiopia a month ago to live with the father of her unborn child. Ariela was due in six weeks, and she said her parents planned to fly to see her in order to witness the birth of the baby.


The apartments Biniyam had shown Ariela were "complete disasters," according to Ariela, who admitted she had huge doubts about staying in Ethiopia after her mother left.

"Although I think about going home a lot, I really want to make this relationship work. I really love Biniyam and I really want to start a life with him," Ariela said.

Ariela said she and Biniyam were therefore moving into an apartment that would be a compromise for the both of them given it's near the hospital and has both a kitchen and a bathroom. While it wasn't perfect, Ariela said it checked off all of her boxes.

Biniyam told the cameras that he wanted to be with Ariela forever.

Ariela noted her apartment needed some painting and cleaning, but she figured her parents would be okay with her living there as opposed to some of the other places her mother had seen.


Ariela assured Biniyam that she wanted to stay in Ethiopia although times were stressful and she didn't have much support there, and Biniyam was very pleased. Ariela told Biniyam that he was her only friend, and Biniyam joked, "You are my baby mama."

Ariela was feeling much better given she could stay in a decent apartment, and so she hoped her relationship with Biniyam would improve and they could become a happy family.

Ariela asked her mother to bring her some things since she and Biniyam didn't have a lot of money, and Ariela said she was very grateful for that. Since Biniyam didn't have a full-time job, Ariela was paying for most things out of her savings.

Biniyam told Ariela that he would work two jobs during the day and at night, but Ariela also wanted help with their newborn baby. Ariela didn't want to raise a baby by herself even though Ethiopian women typically take on that housewife role, according to Biniyam.

Ariela wondered how often Biniyam planned to be out of the house, and she noted, "If he works too much, it could take a toll on our relationship." Biniyam, however, pointed out to his fiancee, "What shall I do? I don't have a choice."

The couple was later shown going shopping for a car. Ariela said taking a taxi is expensive and public transportation in Ethiopa was difficult.


Ariela and Biniyam were shown a typical used car that was a whopping $22,300, which blew Ariela away. Cars are apparently very expensive in Ethiopia because the country is landlocked and taxes essentially double the price.

Ariela thought the price was "ridiculous" and looked at a cheaper car that was from 2001 and cost $17,000.

Biniyam got frustrated when Ariela would compare life and culture in Africa to her previous life in the United States, and Biniyam asked Ariela to buy the car because it would help him get to work and make life easier.

Biniyam told Ariela that they could sell the car for the same price after using it, but Ariela wanted to have enough money for their baby and not spend all of her savings on a car.

Ariela thought it was crazy to spend that much and said, "I don't think we need to buy it." Ariela wanted to establish her life with Biniyam and make smart choices.


"As of right now, I don't feel like we are ready to be parents. We definitely need to get on the same page because we are running out of time," Ariela said in a confessional.

Ariela and Biniyam then went to the hospital for an ultrasound to check on the baby. At Ariela's last appointment, her baby was breech, so she hoped that had changed.

However, Ariela's ultrasound showed the baby had not turned and she was afraid of having a C-section in Ethiopia since the procedure was not common. The baby's movement had also decreased, so Ariela was freaking out on the inside and wanted more information.

Once Ariela met with her doctor, she learned her amniotic fluid was very low and she must deliver through a C-section. Ariela was told she couldn't wait and she had to have baby immediately, that very day.

Ariela started crying and her doctor told her to relax. It was a bomb that dropped on Biniyam and Ariela, and Biniyam admitted, "I am not ready at all. Me and Ari are not ready at all."


Ariela called her parents and said, "I have never been more scared in my life. My family is not here... I wish more than anything in the world that my mother was here. I am about to have abdominal surgery in a place that's very underdeveloped. I don't know what's going to happen."

TIM AND MELYZA

Tim had moved to Colombia in order to win back his girlfriend, Melyza. Tim said he and Melyza had made progress but he wasn't out of the woods yet.

Tim said he wasn't ready to give up on his relationship, and so he went to a job interview even though he was holding onto a job back home in America.

In the back of his mind, Tim was worried Melyza's parents might never forgive him for cheating on their daughter and Melyza might never get over his betrayal.

Tim said Melyza was "holding back" and he didn't hear enough how "happy and proud" she was of the sacrifice he was making for her. Tim told the cameras he and Melyza seemed to be on separate pages.

Meanwhile, Melyza said Tim living with her was "really bumpy." Melyza believed Tim was still keeping things from her and they needed to work through their trust issues.


Melyza also had something to reveal to Tim, and so she sought her friend David and brother Miguel's opinion on how to break the news to Tim. Melyza therefore met with the guys for lunch at a restaurant.

Miguel said Tim was a good guy who seemed really in love with Melyza, but the cheating scandal made Miguel think his sister was dating two different people.

"I haven't been completely honest with him," Melyza told the guys. "He doesn't know that I started relationships with other people. So, like, I'm saying it wasn't serious... At that time, we weren't together."

Melyza apparently dated a guy for a little bit while she and Tim were broken up. A friend had introduced Melyza to this man, and she said the romance "just happened" when she wasn't looking for anything and the relationship was "mostly sexual."

"We never discussed if we should be seeing other people or not [or] if we stopped being exclusive or not," Melyza said in a confessional.


Miguel admitted he'd rather not know if a woman did this to him, and while Melyza acknowledged it was going to be an uncomfortable conversation to have with Tim, she wanted to be open and honest with her boyfriend.

"I think I have a right to live my own life and make my own decisions, but I don't like being lied to by people I care really about," Melyza told the cameras.

"So I don't want to keep things from him anymore now that we are trying to restore our relationship. I realize I need to be honest with him as well and come clean."
