'Survivor: Edge of Extinction' recap: Dan "The Wardog" DaSilva voted out, opts to continue playing on Extinction Island

Survivor: Edge of Extinction castaway Dan "The Wardog" DaSilva was voted out of the Vata tribe but opted to continue in the competition on Extinction Island during the eleventh episode of Season 38 on Wednesday night on CBS.


The Vata tribe voted out Wardog, a 38-year-old law student and former military man from Ossining, NY, who currently resides in Los Angeles, CA, through a 6-2 vote at Tribal Council on Night 29 of the game.

Wardog became the twelfth person voted out of Survivor: Edge of Extinction and the ninth member of this season's jury.

Wardog, however, decided to stay in the game and wait for an opportunity to possibly play again for the $1 million grand prize by traveling to the Edge of Extinction.


"Ultimately, it came down to [Ron Clark] tonight, and Ron did well because I would have voted me out too. So, I'm at the Edge of Extinction now," Wardog said following his vote off, referencing how Ron had served as a swing vote between two alliances.

"I don't know how long I'll be here, but I can't let any regrets happen. Everything is a growing experience. Every day you're here, you're closer to winning the game, even if it feels like you're taking a step back."

Aurora McCreary, a 32-year-old divorce lawyer from Pensacola, FL, who currently resides in Orlando, FL, received two votes at the Tribal Council session.

The Survivor broadcast began at the Vata tribe on Night 27 with only eight castaways remaining.

Lauren O'Connell said it was sad to lose Kelley Wentworth in the game, someone she had genuinely trusted and adored.


The group then determined as a whole and announced Ron and Wardog had flipped. Lauren, however, wanted Rick Devens gone because she said he posed "a threat to everyone."

Lauren wasn't sure whom wanted to work with her going forward though.

Meanwhile, Gavin Whitson annoyed Wardog by saying he wished he had been a part of the vote and didn't like being on the outs. Wardog was frustrated, saying Gavin only wanted to be part of the plan after the votes were read.

Wardog told Gavin that he needed to take Kelley out because she had allies and he thought they were tight along with Rick and Ron.


Gavin knew he had burned his bridge with Wardog, but he didn't really care because Wardog "barked out orders 24/7." Wardog was next on Gavin's list.

Gavin then told Ron and Victoria Baamonde that Wardog talked to him "like a dog" and he "wasn't about that life." Gavin told the pair he wanted to work with them instead as a result.

Gavin figured he was next on the chopping block, but Ron said that wasn't the case in his mind.

Ron was glad Gavin and Wardog's alliance was over because he was trying to play both sides.

Ron then attempted to mend fences with Julie Rosenberg, who assured him that she was still with him. To solidify trust, Ron told Julie that Aurora had given him the extra-vote advantage to hold onto.


If Aurora went home that night, Ron would be able to keep the advantage. Julie promised to watch Ron's back going forward, and then he guaranteed her the same.

"I don't blame Ron at all. It was a good move. There are no hard feelings," Julie said of the Kelley vote. "He's the only person in this game I feel I can truly trust."

On Day 28, Rick told the cameras he needed Ron and Wardog in the game and the guys needed him as well. The guys therefore spoke about serving as shields for each other and taking out the women one by one before they targeted one of them.

"We are each other's biggest threat and we are each other's only hope," Rick pointed out to the guys.

Rick knew people were trying to build their resumes, and so he thought their best move would be to take out Aurora -- an easy vote and a challenge beast, who was unpredictable at Tribal Council -- and then work down from there.

Ron knew he could join either alliance and had a tough decision to make. Regardless, he loved having power and being in control.

Later that day, the tribe met Survivor host Jeff Probst for a Reward Challenge.

The players were required to swim out to a platform, run across it, jump in, pull oneself under the platform, retrieve a ring and race to the finish. Once a team collected all three of its rings, they had to attempt to land them on three targets.

The first four people to finish would win Reward in the form of a mud bath, sandwiches, chicken, shredded pork, roast beef, salad, wine, juice and brownies. It was a way to treat their bodies inside and out.

A schoolyard pick chose the teams of Lauren, Wardog, Devens and Julie vs. Ron, Aurora, Gavin and Victoria.


In the end, Devens' team won Reward, and they immediately headed off in a nice boat.

Gavin thought this would be an opportunity to build a strong relationship with Aurora, Victoria and Ron, and he wanted Wardog's "head on a silver platter."

Meanwhile, on the Edge of Extinction, Kelley and Joe consoled each other. Kelley was upset she hadn't trusted her gut and acknowledged she was going to beat herself up for not playing her hidden Immunity Idol for a long time.

Reem Daly was shocked it took the cast so long to vote Kelley out and noted, "Karma is a b-tch." She was mad at Kelley, who decided to apologize.

Kelley cried because life on Extinction Island wasn't easy, but she was hoping to grow as a person on the show this time around and become more vulnerable, which may hopefully translate into her normal life.


Once Victoria, Gavin, Ron and Aurora returned to camp, the group discussed how Devens was a huge threat and needed to go as soon as possible.

Devens had showed his strength in challenges yet again, but Gavin still wanted Wardog to go first.

Ron then decided to give Aurora her secret advantage back to establish they were still good and she could depend on him. Ron, however, wouldn't hesitate to blindside her if necessary.

Ron and Aurora then got into a little fight over how much rice to eat. She called him "a drama queen," but Ron accused her of being a control freak and admitted she was driving him crazy.

Meanwhile, the challenge winners lathered themselves, relaxed and recharged in the end. Wardog said this was going to be the boost he needed to stay in the game until the end.

When Lauren and Julie had a moment alone, Julie suggested they shake things up because the guys assumed the women would be beatable in the game.

Lauren suggested they vote for Devens because Wardog was pretty much a common threat and enemy for everyone. Lauren thought Devens was "more dangerous" and so she needed to do some convincing.

On Day 29, the Vata tribe met Probst again for the season's next Individual Immunity Challenge.

Each player was required to race over an obstacle carrying a buoy, maneuver a second ball through a long tunnel, and finally grab a third buoy and crawl under a net with it. Each player must then use the keys attached to unlock a puzzle.

The first person to finish their star puzzle would win immunity and be safe from the next vote.

Devens solved his puzzle quickly, with Aurora on his heels.


But in the end, Devens won immunity. Gavin was pleased because since Devens was no longer a target, he could put his plan into action of eliminating Wardog.

After the challenge, Victoria was bummed Devens was still around because he was such a threat.

Julie, Victoria and Ron then discussed voting for Wardog, but he still had an option to flip his vote and work with Devens and Wardog to send Aurora packing.

As for Wardog, he was still going after Aurora because he claimed she ran her mouth a lot and was also on the bottom of her group. Wardog told Julie his plan, but Julie admitted she wasn't sure she could trust him.

"If people were playing smart, they'd vote out Aurora," Wardog said in a confessional.


Julie said voting out Aurora made sense for her game because she had been pushing the Aurora vote "forever."

Julie told Lauren what Wardog was thinking, but Lauren insisted they should absolutely vote out Wardog because they might need Aurora as a number down the road.

Lauren wanted revenge for Kelley by taking out Wardog, but a part of her was nervous about making that move. She had to look towards the future and get her ducks in a row.

Aurora knew Ron was playing both sides and was certain he had been lying to her throughout the game, so she didn't know where he stood.

Aurora was sure her name was going to be written down, however, because Wardog and Devens weren't speaking to her. She therefore considered using her extra vote.

At Tribal Council that night, the castaways told Probst the game was getting much harder and every single person left could be viewed as a threat in his or her own way.

Gavin announced he hadn't spoken to Wardog since Kelley's vote off and he was "talking at" him. Kelley could be heard whispering, "Go Gavin," from the jury.

Wardog also revealed Ron had helped him take Kelley out, which Ron subsequently confessed to doing.

All of the castaways feared getting a knife to the back, but Aurora pointed out some people were going to be surprised at the end of the night.

After everyone voted, Probst read them aloud in the following order: Aurora, Wardog, Aurora, Wardog, Wardog, Wardog, and Wardog.

Devens whispered to Wardog, "Not me," meaning he wasn't a person who had voted against him.


Meanwhile, Kelley appeared thrilled from the jury that her friends had avenged her ouster.

"You all made the right decision. Good luck. Love you," Wardog said following his vote-off.

Wardog was then shown grabbing a torch and heading to the Edge of Extinction.

The episode's closing credits later showed that Wardog and Devens voted for Aurora, while everyone else voted for Wardog's elimination.
