Wisconsin police say a 15-hour standoff with an armed man at his home began with the man's frustration with Bristol Palin's success on "Dancing with the Stars."

Investigators said Steven Cowan, 67, whose wife said has been taking medication for bipolar disorder, was watching the TV show Monday night with his wife at their Vermont home when he became agitated during the dance number by former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's daughter, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Wednesday.

Police said Cowan demanded his pistols, then found a shotgun and some rounds when his wife did not produce the pistols, which had been hidden by his daughter due to safety concerns. Cowan's wife fled the home after he shot the TV.

Police said hostage negotiators and a dog team were called in during the standoff. Cowan was eventually coaxed out of the home Tuesday.

Cowan was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment.
