Demi and Kristian's on-screen romance

Demi and Derek parked a romance right away on Bachelor in Paradise's sixth season, but she struggled with missing a woman back home whom she had dated before the show, Kristian.

Demi had strong feelings for Kristian and apparently couldn't stop thinking about her -- but she was simultaneously falling for Derek.

In order to be fair to Derek and their relationship, Demi decided to tell him about her romantic feelings for a woman.

Derek was understanding and supportive, and he even commended Demi on her bravery for being so open and honest with him. In turn, Demi grew to like Derek even more because he was so "amazing" and "accepting."

But Demi continued to be confused and conflicted over the two people she had intense feelings for.

She later confessed to Derek she had "downplayed" her feelings for Kristian during their first conversation about the woman back home.

"I think about her a lot and have so many feelings for her, and I have so many feelings for you too, and I am so confused," Demi told Derek.

"I have this girl I can't stop thinking about, and then I have you -- an amazing guy -- in front of me who has blown my mind... I am trying to figure it all out and I am just really torn."

Derek told Demi that he really cared about her and wanted to continue getting to know her. Derek planned to keep showing Demi who he is as a person, hoping that's the kind of person she ultimately wants to be with.

"I'm not giving up now, and I don't know if 'fight' for you is the right word, but I want as much time as I can spend with you. I want you in my life," Derek told her.

Demi's emotions, however, eventually boiled over. At one point, the cast thought Demi was going to quit the show, but she decided instead to talk to Bachelor in Paradise host Chris Harrison about her dilemma.

Demi opened up to Harrison about her internal struggle and how her heart was leading her in two different directions.

Demi shared with Harrison how she cared for a woman back home romantically and was afraid to lead Derek on, however, she had developed a powerful connection with Derek as well and could potentially see herself with both people down the road.

Meanwhile, Derek was worried and a bit hurt Demi felt so connected to another person, regardless of whether that person is male or female. But he vented to Chris Bukowski about how Demi was probably "going through so much more" than he was.

"I can understand why she's so conflicted. It makes me question am I always out of my league? What is it? I don't get it. I don't know what else I can do. I don't know if there is anything else I can do," Derek told the cameras, adding that he didn't want to lose Demi.

Suddenly, Harrison asked to speak with Demi, and he told her that producers had come to a decision that would put her in the best position for finding the love of her life.

Demi was then reunited with Kristian in Mexico, and when the girls first saw each other, they embraced and cried.

"I love you so much!" Demi cried, before kissing the woman she had missed terribly.

Kristian said she came to Paradise to pursue Demi and show The Bachelor alum her level of commitment.

Kristian told Demi she had never been in a relationship like this before and it was very difficult to say goodbye. But Demi admitted she had met an amazing guy, Derek -- who was "full of anxiety" at this point -- whom she gave "a lot" to "emotionally and physically."

Demi said she was going back and forth in her mind about what she really wanted.

"I've been really confused about it and feeling like a really f-cked up person for it," Demi told Kristian, adding however that the more and more she was away from Kristian, the more and more she thought about her.

"The second I saw you, I knew exactly, like, it's you and it's always been you. I want to be with you."

Demi then felt the need to talk to Derek and let him know what was going on. But Kristian was hurting knowing Demi had romantic moments with Derek.

"I'm not here for any other reason but her, and if she just wants to be with me, I'm all for it," Kristian told the cameras.

"But if she wants to explore other options, the thought of it sucks... I need her in my life and want her in my life, and if my heart gets broken, that would be my worst nightmare."

Kristian trusted Demi to follow her heart, and then Demi broke the news to Derek that she wanted to be with Kristian.

Derek was upset and heartbroken. He tried to hold it together for Demi because he just wanted to see her happy, but he later cried about the rejection and wondered whether his feelings for a woman would ever be reciprocated. He was tired of being "the great guy" who ends up alone.

Derek then asked to meet and speak with Kristian. There was no animosity between them because Derek and Kristian clearly both wanted what was best for Demi.

Demi's next obstacle was telling the world about Kristian and trying to become comfortable with being her true self in front of everyone at the resort. Katie Morton and Hannah Godwin were especially proud of Demi and gushed about how brave she was for coming out.

Demi and Kristian were then given a Date Card so they could rekindle their flame.

Kristian knew they'd need to work through some things emotionally. She felt a bit confused and angry, and Kristian wanted to make sure Demi was on the same page and she'd commit.

On their date, Kristian told Demi that she had cried after learning about Derek, and Demi hated that she hurt her girlfriend.

Kristian couldn't wrap her head around the fact Demi had doubted their relationship and needed to test her feelings, but Demi explained she was a "skeptic" and "control freak" who always struggled to be vulnerable.

But Demi was ready to try harder for Kristian.

"I could never go through something like this again. It's really not fair to me," Kristian told Demi.

Demi said she was scared and didn't want to get hurt, and that's why she had doubts. Demi assured her girlfriend that she didn't want to run from her feelings anymore and she had figured everything out in such a unique environment.

"I finally found not only myself, but I've found what my heart wants, and I feel so sure about it. I want to commit to you, and I've never wanted to commit to someone like this before," Demi said.

The couple then said, "I love you," to each other. Kristian said when they were together, nothing else mattered, and Demi was ready to love Kristian the way that she deserved.

Demi couldn't imagine being with anybody else ever again, and she was prepared to commit for life.

Demi and Kristian details -- including how they met

Demi was a bachelorette on Colton Underwood's The Bachelor edition. She finished in ninth place and made waves in the house with her confident and forward personality as well as her aggressive approach to dating the then-virgin bachelor.

Reality Steve spoiler blogger Steve Carbone said he first heard Demi was bisexual all the way back in January 2019 when Colton's season was airing.

Carbone claimed to have received pictures of Demi kissing another woman, but he had no intention of outing Demi at the time.

Demi reportedly met Kristian through fellow The Bachelor contestant Catherine Agro, as Catherine and Kristian were roommates. Demi and Kristian allegedly began dating in February.

As Carbone was prepping his spoilers for the new Bachelor in Paradise season, he heard Demi had a girlfriend whom she was planning to introduce to the world on the show. Carbone later received confirmation Demi's girlfriend left for filming.

"All this of Kristian coming on the show was pre-planned," Carbone alleged in a June 18 blog posting.

"Demi talked about it with producers, she knew Kristian was gonna be brought in after filming had started, and she wanted to use the show as an outlet to come out as bisexual. They're not having Kristian battle over other men for Demi or anything like that. They are there and they are a couple."

Carbone said at the time Bachelor in Paradise would be "The Demi Show" for a while and producers and Demi would both exploit the same-sex relationship given the franchise has never seen it before.

"You can bet your ass ABC loves this and will scream it from the rooftops how ground breaking it is for their show to have a same sex couple on it," Carbone wrote last month.

"That's why they're allowing it and seemingly not caring about any sort of rules for the show."

Demi then confirmed in late July she is romantically attracted to and interested in women on social media shortly after a Bachelor in Paradise preview aired on ABC that showed Demi straddling and kissing another woman in bed.

"Spoiler alert: I'm a queer queen," Demi tweeted along with #BachelorInParadise and emojis of a rainbow, a queen and two hearts.

What happens next with Demi and Kristian in Paradise?

Prior to the third Rose Ceremony of the season, Tahzjuan Hawkins from Colton's The Bachelor season and Haley Ferguson from Ben Higgins' season of The Bachelor will arrive.

At the Rose Ceremony, however, Demi will still give her rose to Kristian, and Derek will reportedly offer his rose to Tayshia Adams.

Tayshia has been on the show since the beginning, so it's unclear whether the rose was an attempt to pursue something romantic or just a friendship rose so they can both stay in Paradise.

"Basically every rose ceremony from this point forward starts with Demi going first and giving her rose to Kristian," Carbone said in his spoilers.

Before the fourth Rose Ceremony of Bachelor in Paradise's sixth season, Connor Saeli, Matt Donald, and Luke Stone from Hannah Brown's The Bachelorette season will reportedly show up in Paradise, as well as Chase McNary from JoJo Fletcher's edition.

Angela Amezcua will also enter this episode after being a guest at Chris Randone and Krystal Nielson's wedding, according to Carbone.

John Paul Jones and Derek will then reportedly be shown getting into a fight, which had previously been teased in a Bachelor in Paradise promo.

"Essentially [John Paul] accuses Derek of saying something along the lines of using women, or using Tayshia," Carbone wrote in his July 23 spoilers.

"[John Paul] takes to her defense, Tayshia essentially takes [John Paul]'s side during this fight and Derek ends up crying and leaving the show."

At the fourth Rose Ceremony, Demi will give her rose to Kristian again -- and Tayshia will give her rose to John Paul.

Revian Chang and Bri Barnes from Colton's season will then reportedly arrive to potentially mix things up, as well as Whitney Fransway from Nick Viall's The Bachelor season.

But things will reportedly start to get serious for everyone before the fifth Rose Ceremony.

"There's A LOT that goes down this episode because it's the last rose ceremony before the remaining couples have to decide whether to split or stay together and take the overnight date," Carbone claimed.

"So a lot of people eventually get weeded out/sent home."

Demi will reportedly give Kristian a rose at the fifth Rose Ceremony of the season.

Did Demi and Kristian enjoy a Fantasy Suite date? Did they end up together?

Several couples broke up before the overnight Fantasy Suite dates, according to Carbone, but Demi and Kristian were not one of them.

Demi and Kristian were reportedly one of four couples to enjoy an overnight Fantasy Suite date in Mexico.

In a preview clip for Bachelor in Paradise this season, Demi said in a confessional, "I know that I love this girl. I'm just so happy that I found her, and I can definitely picture being with her for the rest of my life."

In addition, Demi's voice could be heard saying, "I smell an engagement, and it feels amazing," in the trailer.

Those clips obviously teased an engagement, and according to Carbone, Demi and Kristian did in fact get engaged!

Carbone tweeted the news that Demi and Kristian got engaged on June 28.
