American Idol runner-up Lauren Alaina may be a "sweetheart," but is she Scotty McCreery's sweetheart?

Apparently not, as McCreery has denied he is dating Alaina.
Speculation that the tenth-season Idol finalists might be romantically involved was sparked when Alaina showered McCreery with kisses as she congratulated him after his American Idol tenth-season victory during Wednesday night's live finale broadcast on Fox.
"Everybody keeps asking me about the smooch," McCreery told reporters as he initially dodged the issue following the finale, Zap2It reported.
"She told me she was gonna do that before the show. She's a sweetheart."

Alaina, a 16-year-old student from Rossville, GA, also reportedly played coy and brushed off the question when reporters also asked whether she and McCreery, a 17-year-old student from Garner, NC, were an item after the finale.
"Ask Scotty!" Alaina said while walking the red carpet.
Shortly afterward, Alaina called out to McCreery, according to Zap2It.
"They asked me if we're dating. I told them to ask you! I mean, I'll never tell! Secret's safe with me!" she joked.
However, McCreery eventually addressed the speculation directly and said the singers are only good friends during a subsequent press conference.

"She's a character, isn't she? We're really close friends... I don't know about the dating part. She's just being funny," McCreery told reporters, Parade magazine reported.
In addition, the newly-crowned Idol champ suggested the couple won't be breaking ties anytime soon, as McCreery said he'd love to keep working with Alaina and eventually record a song with her.
"I hope so. We've been talking about it for awhile. She's a great girl. I can't say enough nice things about her. I think we sound great together so I think that would be a wise choice," he added during the press conference.
