Bravo has announced that it has picked up American Artist, Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker's new Project Runway-like reality competition series for aspiring artists.

The network first announced it was developing American Artist -- which Parker's Pretty Matches production company had already previously begun developing with Project Runway's former Magical Elves production company and former Miramax Television executive Eli Holzman over a year ago -- last July.

Each episode of American Artist will feature the show's contestants competing in art-themed challenges from a range of disciplines -- including sculpture, painting, photography and industrial design -- and completing works of art that will be appraised by a panel of top figures in the art world, including fellow artists, gallerists, collectors, curators and critics.

American Artist's winner will receive a gallery show, a cash prize and a sponsored national tour.

According to Magical Elves co-founder Dan Cutforth, he and fellow co-founder Jane Lipsitz originally began developing American Artist's concept with Holzman. Holzman, who previously helped develop Project Runway for Bravo as well, later combined their format with a similar concept being developed by Parker and her partner Alison Benson.
