Tayshia and John Paul's on-screen romance

After Tayshia decided to move on from her first date in Paradise with Blake Horstmann -- who had developed a reputation of being a player -- John Paul caught her eye.

Tayshia and John Paul were able to laugh together and have light but also intelligent conversations. Tayshia was surprised to hit it off with John Paul considering his age and image, but she ended up giving John Paul her rose at the second Rose Ceremony.

But just as John Paul thought he and Tayshia were becoming "an item" and he could see her as his serious girlfriend, she pulled him aside for a chat because she couldn't really envision a future with him.

Tayshia therefore advised John Paul to keep his options open in Paradise and not turn down dates with other women.

Tayshia was trying to let John Paul down gently so she could pursue Derek Peth, whom she believed had his stuff together and was more mature and established in life.

John Paul had very strong feelings for Tayshia, but he decided to listen to her and accept a date with Tahzjuan Hawkins. John Paul also later went on a date with Haley Ferguson.

John Paul ultimately determined Tayshia was the girl whom he wanted, but Tayshia decided to advance her friendship with Derek into a romantic connection by kissing him.

At the third Rose Ceremony of the season, Derek got to hand out his rose before John Paul -- and so Derek decided to give it to Tayshia. As a result, John Paul gave Haley his rose.

John Paul had chemistry with Haley and thought she was great, but he couldn't get over Tayshia.

His frustrations about Derek potentially winning Tayshia's heart then boiled over at Chris Randone and Krystal Nielson's wedding, especially when he saw Derek and Tayshia flirting before the ceremony.

"I like Tayshia a lot and Derek is trying to swoop in after his relationship with [Demi Burnett], and Derek is that creepy guy that graduated high school five years ago and comes back to the high school parties despite the fact he's a grown-ass man," John Paul told the cameras.

"I will not allow Derek to swoop in and steal Tayshia away."

John Paul thought Derek was "a fraud" and Tayshia deserved much more, like a man who's ready for commitment and knows what he's looking for and has similar values to her.

John Paul told Tayshia at the start of the ceremony he wanted a long-term relationship for them and Derek was not the right guy for her, but Tayshia explained it was not the time or place to have that conversation.

Tayshia admitted she had a connection with both men and needed to figure things out for herself.

"When someone I care about is being manipulated or pursued by the wrong person, it makes me very angry. I've got to take out the trash when it starts to smell like sh-t," John Paul said in a confessional.

Tayshia was "conflicted" between the two, and then the love triangle escalated in terms of drama when John Paul lashed out at Derek during the cocktail hour at the wedding.

John Paul accused Derek of taking advantage of women, not being ready for a real commitment, and not being a man of integrity. He called Derek "a Bachelor Nation groupie" and said Derek tried to "f-ck" women who follow him on social media.

John Paul also told Demi that Derek was looking for content for his podcast.

Tayshia was stuck between the sparring bachelors, and she didn't know which guy to choose.

After Haley complained to Tayshia about John Paul having led her on, Tayshia realized John Paul was still young and slightly immature.

It also didn't help when John Paul had another heated confrontation with Derek on the beach.

Tayshia said John Paul and Derek were "acting like middle school children," and she considered moving on from both of them as a result. The fight made her feel sick to her stomach.

But John Paul later did some soul searching and got emotional when explaining his feelings to Tayshia.

John Paul hated that Tayshia seemed distant, and he expressed regret and sorrow over upsetting her and not communicating with Haley better.

"I just wanted to let you know how strong my feelings are for you," John Paul said, before breaking down into tears.

"I was going to give you your space because I don't want to scare you away, but I came here for something serious and I just can't handle -- after the moments we shared together -- not being around you. It's just so hard."

John Paul believed in his heart that Tayshia was the woman whom he had been looking for and they shared something very special. He was so afraid he had messed things up by fighting with Derek, but Tayshia was apparently leaning towards being with John Paul over Derek.

Tayshia therefore blindsided and dumped Derek, promising him that John Paul had nothing to do with her decision. Tayshia said she just couldn't see herself falling in love with Derek.

John Paul could see Tayshia was hurting, so he decided to be there for her and attempt to build upon what they had already started.

"I feel like my heart is in it with JPJ, but there's still a lot my heart is skeptical about," Tayshia told Mike Johnson before his exit.

"I think what I did with Derek was the right thing to do, but I'm still up in the air with John Paul Jones at the moment. But I just don't think that I can get there with him."

Tayshia ultimately determined John Paul would do anything to make her happy and smile.

She therefore told John Paul to trust her and not question her anymore. Tayshia had a soft spot for John Paul because he was a hopeless romantic and seemed so invested in and sure about their relationship.

Tayshia thought John Paul was "so sweet," and she believed they were creating a solid foundation for something. Tayshia was willing to "go with the flow," although it was difficult for her to picture being with him long-term.

As a result, Tayshia gave her rose at the fourth Rose Ceremony of the season to John Paul.

"Although there are many fish in the sea, you're the only fish I see," Tayshia told him with a smile.

Tayshia and John Paul seemed inseparable from that point on. They simply enjoyed each other's company and did fun activities, such as fishing in the ocean or Tayshia painting John Paul, stealing a page out of the movie Titanic.

But John Paul really melted Tayshia's heart when he planned an adorable "Paradise Prom" -- including balloons, a corsage, spiked punch, and a tiara for Tayshia -- for her since she was never able to attend her high school prom.

John Paul wanted to prove Tayshia was his "dream girl" and he cared for her tremendously.

Tayshia thought the gesture was "the sweetest thing" ever, saying no man had ever done anything like that for her before.

"I came into this open to love. I didn't really expect it, but love is knocking at my door. I'm definitely falling in love with Tayshia. She's everything that I'm looking for," John Paul said in a confessional.

"I do think I've found something great and something real and something that could last for a long time."

At the fifth -- and final -- Rose Ceremony of the season, John Paul handed his rose to Tayshia

Tayshia and John Paul's romance seemed to end in Mexico

Following the fifth Rose Ceremony in Mexico, Bachelor in Paradise host Chris Harrison addressed the cast and declared Paradise was over and only very serious couples should accept Fantasy Suite dates going forward.

Tayshia said John Paul made her feel like the only woman in the world, and they were just starting to have deep conversation, but she just wasn't totally ready for a Fantasy Suite date.

"I could get engaged to him, but I'm feeling really conflicted... I thought I would have a little more time. I need more time," Tayshia told the cameras.

John Paul then pulled Tayshia aside to talk, and he said he had some of the most magical and happiest moments of his life with her. John Paul even noted he'd like to dance with her at their wedding someday.

"I'm in love with you and I'm not ready for this experience to end, and I want to keep exploring our relationship. I'm in love with you, Tayshia Adams," John Paul told her.

Tayshia was silent upon hearing John Paul open his heart to her. She gave John Paul a kiss and a hug, but suddenly, the joy on her face turned into sadness as she embraced him.

Tayshia said she cherished everything they had in Mexico.

"But to hear that -- oh my God, my heart is beating so fast. To hear that you're in love with me, I want to get there, but I'm not there yet," Tayshia confessed.

Tayshia started to cry and said John Paul didn't even know what he wants in a partner, but John Paul insisted he did know and he knew exactly what he was looking for.

"I know that I want you. You are the most amazing woman I've ever met, and I will not forget the time I spent with you," John Paul said.

The couple then hugged again and John Paul walked away with the intent of leaving Paradise.

But Tayshia ran after him, yelling his name. She cried, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" Tayshia didn't want John Paul to go and she bawled her eyes out.

Tayshia and John Paul both had an emotional exit and said nothing while driving out of Paradise single and alone.
