Smith gave her first public interview since the September birth of Dannielynn and death of her 20-year-old son to "ET" reporter Mark Steines, who recounted the experience on his blog.

Steines reported "fear of constant paparazzi" has Smith and her newborn living like prisoners in a $1 million Nassau, Bahamas, compound.

He described the former Playboy Playmate as "calmer, sadder, a bit broken, yet ... quite beautiful."

Smith "giggles like a schoolgirl" talking about her partner and attorney, Howard K. Stern, and beams at the newborn, whose paternity is in dispute. Photographer Larry Birkhead has filed suit in Los Angeles seeking a paternity test to determine whether he or Stern fathered the little girl.

The reality TV star and spokesmodel for TrimSpa crumbled "like a stack of cards" when her son's name was mentioned, Steines wrote, adding in his 15 years with "Entertainment Tonight," he had "never seen such a level of heart break."

The first part of the interview airs Thursday on "Entertainment Tonight."
