"American Idol" host and Los Angeles DJ Ryan Seacrest is booking his own guests while he subs on CNN's "Larry King Live," the New York Post reports.

Bob Costas signed a deal becoming King's primary substitute, but bowed out of an August show, saying he was uncomfortable with the subject matter. He has since been quoted saying he may not renew his contract next year because of time constraints.

Now, the New York Post reports it looks like CNN is grooming Seacrest to replace Costas and giving him more freedom in the booking process.

Seacrest makes his first appearance in King's chair Saturday with guests Ashlee Simpson and her manager/dad, Joe Simpson. Other Seacrest shows on tap include interviews with Jessica Simpson, Ashton Kutcher and Nicole Richie.
