Viewers just watched Mel enjoy his overnight Fantasy Suite dates with his Final 2 bachelorettes: Cindy, a 60-year-old retired biomedical engineer from Austin, TX, and Peg, a 62-year-old retired firefighter and bomb tech from Las Vegas, NV.Mel was confident he'd be able to deep his connections with the women behind closed doors, but based on his on-camera conversations, Cindy and Peg were left wanting more.
During Peg and Mel's date in Antigua, Peg -- who was waiting to hear how Mel felt about her -- asked, "So how is this thing going between us?"

"How are you feeling about it?" Peg asked.
"Good," Mel responded. "How was the dune buggy?"
And during Cindy's date, she appeared disappointed by Mel's lack of enthusiasm for their relationship considering she thought their chemistry was "off the charts" and she was falling in love with him.
"Do you see a future with us?" Cindy asked. "How do you feel about us? How do you feel about me? For me, the chemistry with you is off the charts."
Mel replied, "It's difficult. It just takes time. I want to make educated choices. I'm not going to take the leap of faith, so to speak, and say, 'Okay, this is going to work out.'"

Cindy explained that she personally viewed the process as a leap of faith because they didn't have much time together.
"But I'm smart enough to know that that's not how my life operates," Mel stated.
"So you knew when you agreed to be the Golden Bachelor that this ended in a proposal. Is that not a leap of faith for you?" Cindy asked.
"No it wasn't," Mel said. "You're searching for a partner. That's what it is."
Cindy's Fantasy Suite date with Mel ended on a cliffhanger.

So did Mel actually fall in love with either bachelorette?
According to Reality Steve spoiler blogger Steve Carbone, Mel picked Peg as his winner at the end of his season.
Not only did Peg receive Mel's special golden rose -- his final rose -- but she also walked away with an engagement ring on her finger!
Carbone reported in a late October Instagram post, "Mel is engaged to Peg."
Carbone captioned his post, "(SPOILER) Took me long enough, but finally here's your Golden Bachelor finale spoiler. #spoiler #goldenbachelor #melowens #abctv #bachelornation."

Bachelor Nation seemed to have mixed reactions to the big spoiler.
While many fans voiced support of Peg because she's bubbly and full of energy, others expressed sadness, knowing Cindy was probably devastated at the end of her journey on the show.
"Omg I thought he was gonna go for cindy! Cindy was probably heartbroken at the end! This season is such a dud! Mel is like a brick wall! He does nothing, says nothing, shows nothing! ZERO emotion!" one Instagram user wrote.
Many social media users also predicted that Mel and Peg's relationship is not going to last.
"Oh, I don't think they're going to get married. This engagement will probably last two months," one critic commented.
Another chimed in, "Never gonna last. She's way too spunky and cool for him!"
A third fan of the show wrote, "She loves her career -- her firehouse and her hometown He loves his Calif life and sons They won't connect."
During a recent appearance on the "Bachelor Happy Hour: Golden Hour" podcast, Peg called her overall experience on The Golden Bachelor "amazing."
And Mel recently gushed about how viewers will be pleasantly surprised by The Golden Bachelor finale.
"It's so brilliant... It's so good, you won't believe it," Mel told Us Weekly in an interview.
"You won't believe how we get there, not mechanically, but how we get there emotionally," he clarified. "There's some movement and twists and turns."

The magazine -- who interviewed Mel in person -- reported that the 66-year-old attorney and former NFL player's face lit up when talking about the end of The Golden Bachelor.
But Mel admitted that trying to figure out who was "going to be the best fit" for him was "tough" during his final days of filming.
"But there's that magnetism that pulls you in that direction no matter what, and it's a little bit more toward one person than the other, so I went with my gut," Mel concluded.
