Wilson, a yacht interior specialist, and Vilchez, a real estate agent, met at the altar when they were total strangers.

The reality TV stars got married on April 2, 2015, with their wedding airing on Season 4 of Married at First Sight.

"After much thought and reflection, and after being married for over a year, we have decided to file for a divorce. This was not an easy decision for either of us because we do love each other very much but sometimes God has other plans," Vilchez wrote on Instagram.

"This is the route we have decided to take, and all we request is that you respect our privacy in this delicate matter."

The decision Wilson, 29, and Vilchez, 25, made to part ways seems like a mutual one. They also insist they will remain close and keep in touch.

"Divorce is never easy for anyone, especially not such a public one. However, we remain best of friends and will always be there for each other even if we are not married," Vilchez continued in the statement.

"We plan to continue to grow our relationship, just without a piece of paper binding us together. We appreciate all the love and support you have all shown us during our marriage and hope you continue to support us during this time."

Vilchez provided the statement on her Instagram account as a caption to an image with a quote inside.

The message is as follows: "Someone can be madly in love with you and still not be ready. They can love you in a way you have never been loved and still not join you on the bridge. And whatever their reasons you must leave. Because you never ever have to inspire anyone to meet you on the bridge."

"You never ever have to convince someone to do the work to be ready. There is more extraordinary love, more love that you have never seen, out here in this wide and wild universe. And there is the love that will be ready."

As for Wilson, he wrote on social media, "Yes our marriage has ended. But a beautiful friendship has started. Lily is my best friend. Love her and care about her happiness. We're still team Tillian!!"

When it became time for "Decision Day" on Married at First Sight's fourth-season finale, Wilson and Vilchez determined they would like to stay together after the extreme six-week experiment.

The major problem Wilson and Vilchez seemed to have during their time on the show was a desire to lead different lifestyles. The groom hoped to live on a bus while the bride was totally opposed to the idea.

The couple also had to overcome communication issues in their marriage as well as moving on from the past, which often came back to haunt them.
