The 20-year-old American model discussed her breakup with the 26-year-old Canadian singer in the new issue of Teen Vogue prior to word The Weeknd is dating Selena Gomez.

"It was my first breakup -- or second, next to [my] horse [Lego] -- and so public," Hadid told the magazine after relating the story of how she sold her horse after her Lyme disease diagnosis.

"As an outsider, you might think I handled it well, but it's always in your heart, and you always feel it very heavily," she admitted. "It'll be hard for a while. Love hurts, but you have to pull through."

"I'll always respect him, and I'll always love him. Sometimes you want to be sad about it or handle it differently, but at the end of the day, you never want to burn a bridge that you've fought so hard to build," the star added.

Hadid and The Weeknd, born Abel Tesfaye, split in November after nearly two years of dating.

Sources told People at the time that the couple called it quits due to their demanding work schedules.

"Their schedules have been too hard to coordinate and he is focusing on finishing and promoting his album," an insider said. "They still have a great deal of love for one another and will remain friends."

The Weeknd has since been linked to Selena Gomez, and enjoyed a romantic trip with the 24-year-old American singer to Italy in January.

The pair were spotted embracing and kissing during a date in Florence.

"He really likes her. They text every day," a source told E! News. "They have a really sexy and flirty relationship. They laugh and like each other's personalities."

Hadid is the daughter of Mohamed Hadid and "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" alum Yolanda Foster, and sister to models Gigi Hadid and Anwar Hadid.

She walked in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show for the first time in November.
