Fox TV's extra edition of "American Idol" this week resulted in a record number of votes by viewers, Fox said Friday.

The network scheduled the extra edition for Wednesday after announcing Tuesday's regularly scheduled episode provided viewers with faulty information on telephone numbers to call, to vote for their favorite performers. Fox said the extra edition on Wednesday drew a record 31.5 million votes from viewers.

The results were bad news for "Idol" contestant Mikalah Gordon, who received the lowest number of votes and has been eliminated from the competition. Next week's episode will feature the remaining 10 contestants singing live in prime time.

"American Idol," now in its fourth season, is a solid hit for Fox, attracting an estimated 30 million viewers per show.
