After trying her hand at fashion, Lauren Conrad has apparently developed a new interest: fiction writing.

HarperCollins Publishers has announced it's acquired the rights to a new young adult fiction series written by Conrad, who also debuted her first fashion collection in March.

The first of the three-book series, entitled "L.A. Candy" will be published in the summer of 2009.

"I've always loved books that I could lose myself in, ones that would transport me to another place, but had characters I could relate to," said the 22-year-old The Hills star. "I'm so excited to have this opportunity to write books like that for other readers."

According to the publisher, "Candy" will tell the behind-the-scenes story of a young girl who moves to L.A. and unexpectedly becomes the star of a reality television show. With her sudden stardom, the protagonist deals with wealth, famous friends, fabulous clothes, and romance, as well as the darker realization that everyone wants something from her and nothing is what it appears to be.

"It's definitely influenced by my own life," Conrad told People in a Thursday report. "The books are about a girl who moves to L.A. and stars in a reality show, so obviously there are some similarities."

However, Conrad says anyone expecting the books to provide a peek into the lives of fellow Hills stars like Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag will be disappointed.

"I'm not trying to do a fictional story based on all my friends in my real life because their stories aren't really mine to tell," Conrad said. "Some of the characters may symbolize people in my life, but it is in no way calling anyone out."

HarperCollins executive Elise Howard said that the popularity of both Conrad and The Hills has the publisher believing the series could potentially become a best-selling blockbuster.

"I've never seen a new project generate noise like the instant buzz that swept through our offices around this deal," said Howard.
