Mel just had his overnight Fantasy Suite dates with his Final 2 bachelorettes: Cindy, a 60-year-old retired biomedical engineer from Austin, TX, and Peg, a 62-year-old retired firefighter and bomb tech from Las Vegas, NV.

Mel didn't seem to want to open up to either woman, but Peg insisted that he let his guard down with her behind closed doors.
Mel and Cindy's Fantasy Suite date, however, ended on a cliffhanger.

When the penultimate episode ended, Cindy seemed disappointed and annoyed that Mel wasn't being vulnerable with her.
"Do you see a future with us?" Cindy asked. "How do you feel about us? How do you feel about me? For me, the chemistry with you is off the charts."
Mel replied, "It's difficult. It just takes time. I want to make educated choices. I'm not going to take the leap of faith, so to speak, and say, 'Okay, this is going to work out.'"
Mel said starring on The Golden Bachelor wasn't a leap of faith, in his opinion, because he was simply searching for a partner.
In a preview of The Golden Bachelor finale that recently aired in ABC, The Golden Bachelor host Jesse Palmer teased an "explosive" ending to Mel's season.

"I actually think Mel and I are very well suited for each other," Cindy tells the cameras.
Mel vents in a confessional, "I need to get out of my head."
Mel asks his son to help him make a decision between the two women.
Mel proceeds to tell Peg, "Last night, I had an overnight with Cindy, and I just want to be transparent with you and tell you what happened."
Mel then tells one woman, whose face wasn't shown, "I still want me and you."

Mel eventually admits he's "in the unknown" at this point and doesn't "know if it's going to blow up."

So what happened at the end of filming, and did Mel walk away from his The Golden Bachelor journey alone?
According to Reality Steve spoiler blogger Steve Carbone, Mel picked Peg as his winner at the end of his season.
Mel also reportedly got down on one knee and proposed marriage to Peg at the Final Rose Ceremony in Antigua.

"Mel is engaged to Peg," Carbone wrote in a late October Instagram post.
Carbone captioned his post, "(SPOILER) Took me long enough, but finally here's your Golden Bachelor finale spoiler. #spoiler #goldenbachelor #melowens #abctv #bachelornation."
Bachelor Nation seemed to have mixed reactions to the big spoiler.
While many fans voiced support of Peg because she's bubbly and full of energy, others expressed sadness, knowing Cindy was probably devastated at the end of her journey on the show.
"Omg I thought he was gonna go for cindy! Cindy was probably heartbroken at the end! This season is such a dud! Mel is like a brick wall! He does nothing, says nothing, shows nothing! ZERO emotion!" one Instagram user wrote.
Many social media users also predicted that Mel and Peg's relationship is not going to last.
"Oh, I don't think they're going to get married. This engagement will probably last two months," one critic commented.
Another chimed in, "Never gonna last. She's way too spunky and cool for him!"
A third fan of the show wrote, "She loves her career -- her firehouse and her hometown He loves his Calif life and sons They won't connect."

During a recent appearance on the "Bachelor Happy Hour: Golden Hour" podcast, Peg gushed about how her overall experience on The Golden Bachelor was "amazing."

And Mel teased that The Golden Bachelor finale is going to be "so brilliant" for viewers.
"It's so good, you won't believe it," Mel told Us Weekly in an interview.
"You won't believe how we get there, not mechanically, but how we get there emotionally," he clarified. "There's some movement and twists and turns."
The magazine -- who interviewed Mel in person -- reported that the 66-year-old attorney and former NFL player's face lit up when talking about the end of The Golden Bachelor.
But Mel admitted that trying to figure out who was "going to be the best fit" for him was "tough" during his final days of filming.
"But there's that magnetism that pulls you in that direction no matter what, and it's a little bit more toward one person than the other, so I went with my gut," Mel concluded.
