The Bachelorette host Chris Harrison has responded to criticism regarding the "Brokeback Bachelor" promo and whether the show has taken the Clint Arlis and JJ Lane "bromance" too far.

During Monday night's episode, Clint told the cameras, "I knew in the back of my head [Kaitlyn] wasn't the right girl for me. But I love JJ. He has made my time in the house insanely enjoyable so I need to get a rose from Kaitlyn."

Clint therefore gave Kaitlyn a kiss and convinced her that he wanted to keep fighting for her love, when in reality, he confessed he was no longer interested in the Bachelorette. Clint made additional comments about showering with JJ and having an amazing connection with him because he's a "sweetheart" and has "a lot of levels" to him.

So The Bachelorette fans first questioned, "Are Clint and JJ gay?" And when Clint suggested it was all a joke on social media, people started wondering if the show edited his relationship with JJ to the extreme or maybe even out of context.

"First of all, the fact that we would allude to [a male-male romance], I'm not sure why that would outrage people. Why is that a bad thing? I think what people are worried about is that it's sensational and that if the show didn't live up to the promo then that's not fair," Chris told TV Guide.

"I get if it wasn't in line with what we saw, but in my opinion it is. It's not just a simple bromance. I don't know what it is, but I don't think it's that big of a stretch the way they were talking and acting. I'm still not even sure what to make of it."

Last night's The Bachelorette broadcast concluded with a cliffhanger in which Kaitlyn confronted Clint about his dishonesty and lack of sincerity.

"Clint played me," Kaitlyn was shown saying. "Clint is one of the biggest douches in Bachelor history. He is going to go down in flames."

Chris pointed out that he loves Kaitlyn's "backbone" and the fact she's "not a pushover." During a group date with Clint on Monday night's show, Kaitlyn called him out in front of the other guys for ignoring her all day and being cold.

"You'll see a lot more," Chris teased of the Clint drama for next week's episode.

"There's a massive betrayal [that has to do with] the Clint-JJ relationship, the likes of which I don't know if we've seen in a long time. It's very explosive and I don't find Clint as much of the bad guy in the house that JJ seems to be. We then hit the road next week and we'll be adding [Nick Viall] so it's crazy from here on out."
