WE tv says it has ordered six, 1-hour episodes of "Sinbad's Family Affair," a series showcasing the lives of U.S. comedian Sinbad and his family.
"Fifteen years ago, Sinbad was at the top of his game -- hit sitcom, successful talk show, a promising movie career and the perfect family," the cable network said in a synopsis. "And then it all went away. TV shows were canceled, the film roles dried up, and he and his college sweetheart got divorced. For many people, it would end there... But Sinbad is doing it all over, and this time he's doing it right. He fired his agent, kicked his 30-plus person entourage off the payroll and kept his focus on his original passion: stand-up comedy. He remarried his ex-wife Meredith and moved back into their original home. Their children Paige, 25, and Royce, 22, are working to build their own careers, but they haven't stopped tapping dad for financial support."
The show is to premiere April 12, and will air on consecutive Tuesday nights.
"Sinbad's story is one of second chances. It's remarkable and heartwarming, but not without its drama, conflict and chaos," John Miller, senior vice president of original productions and development for WE tv and Wedding Central, said in a statement Friday.
"This is a modern family that's reunited and they're dealing with the emotions and issues that come along with that. It's what viewers will see more of on WE tv, and women will be able to connect with this story and this family, either from their own experiences or those of people in their life."
