The LA Ink star and former Jesse James is a Dead Man and Monster Garage star have announced they have ended their engagement and split.

"I'm so sad because I really love her," James told People.  "The distance between us was just too much."

"I am no longer [with] Jesse, and out of respect for him, his family and myself, thats all the info I'd like to share. Thanks for respecting that," Von D wrote in a separate Twitter posting.

Reports that James and Von D had called off their wedding and split had surfaced last month, however the pair had denied them.

"That is absolutely not true," James told People. "We're still going strong. Things are completely good with us."

"That's the furthest thing from the truth," Von D added.

After previously denying they were an item and insisting they were just longtime friends, Von D and James began dating last summer after James' divorce from Hollywood actress Sandra Bullock, his wife of five years, was finalized.

They subsequently announced their engagement in January and planned to get married this summer to mark the one-year anniversary of when they began dating.

"There is no one else for me. He's the one," Von D told People at the time.

James and Bullock finalized their divorce in June 2010 -- only three months after James was first accused of having an 11-month affair with tattoo model Michelle "Bombshell" McGee while Bullock was in Atlanta filming The Blind Side, for which she won the Oscar for Best Actress.

Several additional women then also made similar claims and James admitted to the infidelity, resulting in Bullock filing for divorce in April 2010.

Bullock subsequently left Los Angeles, CA and moved to Austin, TX, where the former couple had owned another home and James owned a custom-car business.

James then closed his LA-based West Coast Choppers custom motorcycle business and followed Bullock to Austin several months later, resulting in numerous media reports that he was still hoping to reconcile with her.

However, the pair never reconciled and James began dating Von D instead -- resulting in a local distance relationship in which James had continued to live in Austin while Von D remained in Los Angeles, the location of her High Voltage tattoo shop.
