Julianne Hough has offered an explanation as to why she flip-flopped when it came to competing on Dancing with the Stars upcoming eighth season -- claiming she almost wasn't even swayed by the opportunity to be partnered with boyfriend Chuck Wicks.

"It was a last minute deal.  I was set on taking this season off and then last minute the show asked me to do it because they had asked Chuck to do it and they thought it would be cool if we danced together," Hough wrote on Saturday on her MySpace blog.

"At first I still said no because I wanted to focus on my music BUT then I thought about it for a day and figured this out. I can still write, go on tour and work on Julianne Hough the country singer because Chuck will be my partner and that will be a huge luxury."

"Julianne Hough the country singer" was originally the reason behind Hough's November announcement that she would not compete in the show's eighth season.  Hough had called the decision "final" at the time and stated it was because she wanted to focus on her singing career and be "taken seriously" as a musician.

However she quickly changed her tune following last fall's Dancing with the Stars seventh-season finale broadcast.

"I may have put my foot in my mouth when I said I wasn't going to come back next season.  I just meant that maybe I'll come back next season, maybe I won't," she said at the time.  "Maybe I'll take a season off here -- like maybe this [spring] one, maybe the one in the fall.  But [I'm] definitely going to take one off to focus on the music."

Earlier this month, Wicks -- a country musician who has been dating Hough since last summer -- was revealed as a Dancing with the Stars eighth-season celebrity participant and Hough was announced as his partner.

In addition, Hough cited her need to take the show's Fall 2009 edition off as another reason as to why she's participating in its spring season, which will debut March 9.

"If I would have taken this season off I would have had to go back on the fall season when I will be trying to promote a new single off of my new record so it would have been harder to do that if I was on the show," Hough wrote on her blog, apparently oblivious of the irony that Wicks' own Dancing with the Stars participation implies that his management has determined the show is a better promotional vehicle than the more typical promotional activities she is planning to leave the show to do.

Hough added that the reason for explaining her thinking was to keep fans in the loop as to why she's changed her mind.

"I wanted to clear that up with everyone, I know there had been some confusion, and the LAST thing I want to do is confuse my fans," she wrote.  "You guys have been supportive of me from the beginning..... I can't thank you enough!!!"
