History has announced Top Shot, the network's first-ever reality competition series that will pit skilled marksmen against each other, will premiere Sunday, June 6 at 10PM ET/PT.

Top Shot will begin with 16 contestants divided into two teams, who will then compete in various shooting-themed challenges inspired by real events in history -- from Wild West shootouts to modern-day sniper missions.

In addition, every challenge will be designed around weapons, technologies and tactics from different eras throughout history.

"Not only will contestants have a chance to experience history in the making, but they might make history themselves by breaking a world record," said History president Nancy Dubuc.

Each episode will conclude with the losing team competing in a shooting-themed challenge to determine who will be eliminated.

Top Shot's grand-prize winner will receive a $100,000 prize package.

History ordered Top Shot in December and the 10-episode series is being produced by Pilgrim Films & Television. It was filmed using hi-speed HD cameras.
