Gilles Marini attributes his Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars ouster to one main factor -- last week's "swing dance marathon."

"The marathon just did me in," Marini told Us Weekly following Tuesday night's results show, referring to how he and professional partner Peta Murgatroyd had only received five out of 10 possible points for their "swing dance marathon" performance last week.

Over the course of the last two weeks, Marini and Murgatroyd earned a total of 87 out of 90 possible points for their three individual dance routines, but because they got kicked out of the dance marathon so early, it brought their overall score down to 92 out of 100 possible points.

"Even if I had scored three 10s on Monday's show I wouldn't be [going to the semi-finals)," the actor explained.

Marini and Murgatroyd received 29 points from Dancing with the Stars judges Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli for their trio dance with pro dancer Chelsie Hightower and 29.5 points for their quickstep routine on Monday night -- close to perfect scores.

Marini insisted to Us the elimination results were just left up to fate and not representative of how much effort he had put into the reality dance competition.

"One thing I have is a work ethic. I'll work until I drop dead... [but] sometimes it doesn't matter how hard you work," he explained. "Sometimes it doesn't take just hard work, it takes something else, and that's something else I will have to find in my life because hard work just doesn't cut it sometimes."

However, Marini apparently still felt the need to apologize to his fans.

"I am so sorry about the elimination. I feel like I let you guys down somehow," the 36-year-old actor reportedly wrote on his Facebook. "We worked so so hard every single day to bring the best dances possible, yet came out short! Life!"

In addition to Marini and Murgatroyd, actress Kirstie Alley and her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy were also eliminated during last night's Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars results show.
