Reports of Nashville's demise have apparently been greatly exaggerated.  At least according to Fox.

Although several recent media reports have reported otherwise, Fox insists the docu-reality series -- which was removed from the network's schedule after two unsurprisingly poorly-rated Friday night broadcasts in September -- still currently remains only on hiatus.

"Nashville is currently on hiatus and no decision has been made on the status of the show at this time," a Fox representative, denying reports that the network had recently announced the show's formal cancellation, told Reality TV World in a Tuesday statement.

Nashville's September 14 premiere finished last in its 9PM ET/PT time period and averaged only 2.72 million overall viewers.  Its second episode did worse the following Friday, averaging only 2.2 million overall viewers.

As a result, Fox decided to put Nashville on hiatus two weeks before the network's Major League Baseball playoffs coverage was already set to trigger a three-week hiatus that would have ended on October 26.  Additionally, the network also announced that instead of returning on October 26 as originally planned, Nashville would return at an unspecified "later date."  Another special two-hour 8-10PM ET/PT broadcast of The Next Great American Band -- the new American Idol-like reality competition series that was originally intended to serve as Nashville's 8PM ET/PT lead-in -- would air on October 26 instead.

Fox now plans to air another two-hour broadcast of The Next Great American Band on November 2.  A Don't Forget the Lyrics! episode will air in Nashville's 9PM ET/PT time period on November 9.
