Fox has announced American Idol's eighth season will premiere over the course of two consecutive nights on Tuesday, January 13 and Wednesday, January 14, with both two-hour broadcasts beginning at 8PM ET/PT.

Following its two-night, four-hour debut, American Idol's eighth season  -- which will feature both the on-screen addition of new fourth judge Kara DioGuardi and the off-screen absence of former producer Nigel Lythgoe -- will air the the reminder of its open auditions and Hollywood Week broadcasts in the Tuesdays 8-9PM ET/PT time period beginning January 20 and the Wednesdays 8-9PM ET/PT time period beginning January 21.

American Idol's eighth season auditions took place in San Francisco, CA; Louisville, KY; Phoenix, AZ; Salt Lake City, UT; Kansas City, MO; Jacksonville, FL; East Rutherford, NJ; and San Juan, PR this past summer.

In addition to American Idol's eighth season premiere, Fox also announced that the fifth edition of Gordon Ramsey's Hell's Kitchen reality competition will premiere Thursday, January 29 at 9PM ET/PT. 

Fox's scheduling means Hell's Kitchen's fifth season will finally premiere nearly a full year after it was filmed back-to-back with Hell's Kitchen's fourth edition, which the network aired last spring.
