Demi Lovato's biological father Patrick Lovato has passed away following a long battle with cancer.

The X Factor judge and singer's representative confirmed the news to Us Weekly after Lovato's older sister and mother took to Twitter posting about Patrick's death this past weekend.

"Rest in peace daddy I love you," Lovato's 25-year-old sister Dallas posted Saturday.

Lovato's mother Dianna De La Garza also tweeted, "Thank you for the outpouring of love and prayers. Y'all are amazing!"

Lovato, a 20-year-old former Disney Channel star, subsequently addressed her father's passing.

"I feel so humbled to have had so much support from my fans, friends, family and complete strangers," Lovato tweeted late Sunday. "God bless you all, thank you so much love."

Lovato and her father had reportedly been estranged for many years. The singer wrote a song entitled "For the Love of a Daughter" for her 2010 Unbroken album, which lyrically portrayed the difficult and emotionally-taxing relationship the pair had.

Lovato's representative also told Us that she was unable to attend The X Factor auditions in Long Island, NY, over the weekend because she was mourning Patrick's death.

Fox announced in late March that Lovato will be returning to The X Factor's judging panel for its upcoming third season. This will mark her second season serving on the panel alongside fellow returning judge Simon Cowell and newbie judges Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio.
