A teaser for the season shows Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) lamenting the amount of murder he's witnessed. Season 4 takes him, Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon) and Manuelito (Jessica Matten) to Los Angeles looking for a missing Navajo girl.
"I had this badge for four years before I saw my first murder," Leaphorn says. "Now it just feels like every day. It's hard having to hold it all."
Season 4 guest stars include Franka Potente, Isabel DeRoy-Olson, Chaske Spencer, Luke Barnett, Titus Welliver and A. Martinez. Deanna Allison returns as Emma Leaphorn, Joe's wife. McClarnon makes his directorial debut with a Season 4 episode.
Based on the Tony Hillerman Leaphorn and Chee books, Dark Winds premiered in 2022. AMC renewed it for Season 4 in February. Season 3 concluded in April.
