The documentary I'm Chevy Chase and You're Not is set to premiere on CNN Jan. 1.
"From his Saturday Night Live beginnings to a string of classic comedies, Chevy Chase has always had huge comedic range," a synopsis for the film said.
"He is also a complex and contradictory human being. Featuring revealing interviews with those closest to him, this documentary digs into the talent, flaws, and humanity that shaped an icon."
A trailer for the film about the famously difficult comedic genius includes interviews with Chase's former co-stars including Dan Aykroyd, Goldie Hawn and Martin Short.
"I've always loved a challenge, and Chevy certainly offered one. I wanted to understand the real person behind the guarded, conflicted man we've often seen on camera," director Marina Zenovich said in a statement Thursday.
"Beneath the bravado, I found someone deeply human, with layers of humor and emotion that make him far more complex than his public persona may suggest."
Chase, 82, is a founding SNL cast member, who went on to star in the comedy blockbusters Caddyshack, Foul Play, Spies Like Us, the National Lampoon's Vacation franchise and Fletch, as well as the TV sitcom, Community.
