Nintendo has announced a Switch 2 edition of its hit 2020 game Animal Crossing: New Horizons, along with a free update for players.

The Switch 2 version will feature higher resolution visuals (4K in TV mode), mouse controls and an in-game megaphone that uses the system's microphone, as well as online co-op for up to 12 players.
The new edition will be available to purchase via digital or physical copy for $64.99, or as a $4.99 upgrade for players who already own the game. Pre-orders for the upgrade pack begin Thursday.
In addition, a free update for all players will bring a new resort hotel and new items and characters to the game:
+ The resort is run by Kapp'n's family and will see players help decorate guest rooms to attract visitors.

+ Players with a Nintendo Switch Online membership can design and save up to three islands.
The Switch 2 version and the free update will both launch Jan. 15.
