I, Daniel Blake is a 2016 drama film by British filmmaker Ken Loach. The screenplay was written by Loach's frequent collaborator Paul Laverty. It won the Palme d'Or at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.

Principal photography began in October 2015 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and the surrounding area. The film was produced by Rebecca O'Brien for Sixteen Films, Why Not Productions and Wild Bunch with the support of the British Film Institute, BBC Films and Campbell's Transport of Peterlee.

Synopsis

Daniel Blake is a 59-year-old joiner in the North-East of England who falls ill and requires state assistance for disability from the Employment and Support Allowance. While he endeavours to overcome the red tape involved in getting this assistance, he meets single mother Katie who, in order to escape a homeless persons' hostel, must take up residence in a flat away.
