Hunter Parrish Biography

Hunter Parrish (born May 13, 1987) is an American actor and singer. He is known for playing Silas Botwin in Showtime's television series Weeds.

Personal life

Parrish was born in Richmond, Virginia. His mother, Annie Parrish, works with children with autism, and his father, Bruce Tharp, is an engineer. He graduated from Plano Senior High School and from the Texas Tech University Independent School District. Parrish is a "liberal Christian".

Career

Parrish has guest starred in several TV series, including CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Close to Home, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Summerland. He has also appeared in the films Sleepover and RV and The Good Wife.

In the film Freedom Writers, Parrish played Ben Samuels, the only white student in a California high school class. Reviewer Thomas Hibbs of the National Review Online noted that Parrish played the role with "unassuming humor".

Parrish portrayed the role of the oldest Botwin son, Silas, in the Showtime original series Weeds from 2005 to 2012. On August 11, 2008, Parrish joined the cast of the Tony-Award-winning Broadway musical Spring Awakening in the lead role of Melchior Gabor at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre in New York City, receiving critical acclaim. He remained in the role until the show's closing on January 18, 2009.

On August 18, 2008, Parrish released a video on funnyordie.com titled "Cougar 101 with Hunter Parrish".

Parrish appeared as a high-school basketball player, Stan, in the 2009 film 17 Again.

From 2007 to 2009, he hosted a web talk show with his friends Kyle Sherman and Allison Tyler calledTwo Guys and a Girl.

On August 8, 2011 it was announced that Parrish would star as Jesus in the upcoming Broadway revival of Godspell. Performances began October 13. He left the show on April 15, 2012 to film the final season of Weeds.

Parrish auditioned for the role of Peeta Mellark for The Hunger Games, but lost the role to his RV co-star Josh Hutcherson.

In 2013 and 2014, Parrish guest starred on CBS show The Good Wife as a Jeffrey Grant, a young man accused of murder.

Personal life

In December 2014, Parrish announced his engagement to Kathryn Wahl.

Discography

In 2012, Hunter Parrish recorded his first EP called Guessing Games, featuring six songs. At first, Guessing Games was only available for sale in the lobby of Godspells (his current music at the time) home at the Circle in the Square Theatre, but with a bigger release to follow. The first single from the EP, "Sitting at Home", was released on iTunes on June 7, 2012. The complete EP was released later that month, on June 26.
