Similar to the show's original seasons that aired on Fox between 2001 and 2003, USA Network's Temptation Island reboot will follow four dating couples at a pivotal time in their relationships in which they must decide whether to stay committed to each other for the rest of their lives or go their separate ways.

The couples -- who were at a crossroads in their relationships -- traveled together to the tropical paradise of Maui, Hawaii, and while there, were going to be able to live the "single life" in attempt to determine whether or not being single is exactly what they want.

The stakes were high and hearts were on the line, but each exclusive couple seemed pretty confident their bonds would outlast and conquer any temptation. However, everyone was taking a great risk.

Meet the couples

The Temptation Island broadcast began with viewers being introduced to the four couples -- who would be separated into separate houses for the men and the women.

John Thurmond, 35, and Kady Cannon Krambeer, 30, who currently resides in Fort Worth, TX, met through the dating app Bumble and have been dating for three years.

Kady constantly questioned John's masculinity and has always wanted an "Alpha guy," but John admitted he's not that type of man because he's very nice and humble. The two of them thought they were ready to take the leap towards marriage, but something was holding them back.

Javen Butler, 25, and Shari Ligons, 25, who currently reside in San Francisco, CA, were high school sweethearts who met at 16 years old.

They've been dating for eight years and living together for five years, but Shari still couldn't get over the fact Javen cheated on her during college.

They were headed to Temptation Island in order to ensure Shari could trust Javen again. She knew this experience would test his loyalty and love more than ever before.

And as for Javen, he wanted Shari to experience dating other men since she's never dated anyone else besides him.

Karl Collins, 31, and Nicole Tutewohl, 25, who currently resides in Chicago, IL, met at the gym and have been dating for two-and-a-half years.

Nicole and Karl were trying to determine what is next for them because they were both feeling stagnant in their relationship. Were they simply past the honeymoon stage or were they actually bored with each other?

On top of that, Nicole questioned what "real love" even means, although Karl was technically her first true love.

Evan Smith, 28, and Kaci Campbell, 29, who currently reside in Los Angeles, CA, went to rival high schools and connected right before college. They have been dating on and off for 10 years, exclusive for the past five years.

Kaci was ready for marriage and motherhood, especially since she comes from a religious family who disapproved of them living together before exchanging vows to begin with.

While Evan said he was ready for commitment too, he just hadn't been able to bring himself to get down on one knee -- and Kaci was tired of waiting.

"My dad cheated on my mom and it led him down the road to actually be murdered by the woman he was cheating with's husband. It rocked me to my core. I love the idea of marriage. I want to spend the rest of my life with Kaci, but I'm scared I'm going to hurt her like my dad hurt my mom," Evan revealed.

Evan added that if he didn't propose to Kaci by age 30 she would leave him, but he didn't understand how a ring and a "piece of paper" would change anything about their already-healthy relationship.

Meet the singles

The couples were then introduced to the beautiful ladies and handsome men who would be tempting themselves and their beloved partners.

Hannah, a 22-year-old in E-commerce from Vancouver, WA, said she has a "lot of hustle" and goes after something when she likes it.

Johnny, a 31-year-old chiropractor from New York, NY, insisted he's great with his hands and would always have a woman's back.

Jeffri, a 31-year-old flight attendant from Scottsdale, AZ, told the men she has traveled the world but has yet to find love.

James, a 29-year-old BIM designer from Wilmington, DE, shared how he's respectful, faithful and "husband material."

Brittney, a 27-year-old yoga retreat owner from Venice, CA, told the group a spiritual connection is important to her.

Allie, a 26-year-old academic advisor from Fort Lauderdale, FL, revealed she has a Master's Degree in Communications and so she "has mastered the art of persuasion." She also said she knows how to have a good time.

Kayla, a 28-year-old sales supervisor from Cincinnati, OH, said she's on the island for love and a future partner.

Roman, a 28-year-old sales representative from Lexington, KY, announced he's a southern gentleman who likes to ride motorcycles. John immediately looked at Kady and said, "That's your guy right there."

Morgan, a 27-year-old real estate agent from Arlington, VA, said when she finds something she likes, she knows how to close the deal.

Tyler, a 25-year-old film financer from New York, NY, said he knows how to win and was going to win one of the ladies over.

Carlos, a 29-year-old project manager from Spring, TX, spoke Spanish and said he was born and raised in Cuba. He explained that life is an adventure and he doesn't want to go through it alone. He was looking for "the right girl" to take the ride with him.

Sheldyn, a 25-year-old student from Houston, TX, insisted one of the guys was going to fall for her.

Shari threw shade at several of the women who introduced themselves that day, including Sheldyn, but the singles believed she was just very insecure and poked fun at the women who intimidated her.

Val, a 25-year-old barber from Brooklyn, NY, said he's "a momma's boy," and the one thing she taught him was how to treat a lady right.

Katheryn, a 30-year-old medical aesthetician from Nashville, TN, called herself a "southern belle" loaded with ambition, and she said she knew exactly what she wanted.

Javen pointed out to Shari that the lineup of guys was "horrible" for the women, but then Shari barked back, wondering why her man didn't say that the lineup of women was horrible as well. Javen said Shari was putting words in his mouth and the couple began fighting in front of everyone.

The single ladies then pointed out that Shari was "the crazy one," and Javen vented, "Story of my life." He said he wasn't interested in any of the women he saw that day and Shari was going to be his "girl for life," but Shari didn't believe him.

The couples get separated

That night, host Mark L. Walberg announced the couples would be separated, but it was just goodnight and not goodbye.

The next morning, Shari admitted she didn't sleep well because she had "a lot of unfinished business" with Javen.

And John then declared to the host what the men's first impressions were of the singles.

"We just thought the guys were acting like a bunch of nervous p-ssys," he said.

The partying then kicked off. Kaci said the guys were "hot" and conversation flowed naturally.

Kady and Carlos engaged in a private conversation, and he said he likes to make a woman feel like she is the only person in the world when they are together. And Shari had a swarm of men surrounding her, which made her feel a little uneasy.

Meanwhile, Evan seemed to spark a connection with Brittney, who discovered she had went to a high school in the town where he is from. And John pulled Katheryn aside for a chat, which ended with Katheryn saying they should be friends -- or lovers.

Later on, each individual in the four couples was given the opportunity to "block" a single from going on dates with his or her partner throughout the entire season. This "block" was executed in the form of putting a necklace around the intimidating single's neck.

Kady decided to block Katheryn, who just so happened to be the girl John was interested in given he had said she's "the hottest out of all of them."

"It made me feel like Kady is now getting concerned," John said.

Although Katheryn was blocked from going on a date with John, the pair could still hang out constantly at their villa, and she had no intention of leaving him alone.

John then decided to use his block as well, and he put a necklace around Roman's neck since "Kady is a big sucker for country boys."

Kaci, however, said she chose not to take advantage of a "block" because she wanted Evan to get the full experience at Temptation Island. Kaci thought dating other people was exactly why they had signed on to do the show.

The couples say goodbye

The episode concluded with the couples enjoying a dinner together, without the singles being present. This marked the last time the couples would be together until they leave the island and must make a huge decision.

"For some of you, this is goodbye forever," Mark told the couples. "I suggest you say the thing you are afraid to say to one another right now as if you were never getting a chance to say it again."

The couples kissed goodbye, exchanged professions of love and reminded each other how they are meant to be.

"I don't feel 100 percent sure that John is the one for me. Now, I feel like I should not be sitting there picking at him. I'm not perfect either, and I hope he still loves me at the end of it," Kady told the cameras.
