A space burial is planned for character actor James Doohan, best known as the peripatetic chief engineer "Scotty" in the original "Star Trek" series.

Doonan died July 20. His ashes will be among the remains of more than 150 people that Houston's Space Services plans to send into orbit this fall, the Houston Chronicle said Friday.

"Memorialization, symbolic gestures are happening more and more in the U.S. today," Space Services founder and CEO Charles Chafer said.

"Wherever people like space and choose cremation, we should have a market. As humanity leaves the planet, as I firmly believe they will, we'll take all of our celebrations with us."
